Belinda Carlisle
Belinda Jo Carlisle ( ; born August 17, 1958) is an American singer. She gained fame as the lead vocalist of the Go-Go's, the most successful all-female rock band of all time, and went on to have a prolific career as a solo artist. Raised in Southern California, Carlisle became the lead vocalist of the Go-Go's after the band's formation in 1978. With their chart-topping debut studio album '' Beauty and the Beat'' in 1981, the group helped popularize new wave music in the United States. The Go-Go's were the first (and to date only) all-female band in history who wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to achieve a No. 1 album. The Go-Go's have sold over seven million records worldwide. After the break-up of the Go-Go's in 1985, Carlisle went on to have a successful solo career with radio hits such as "Mad About You", "I Get Weak", "Circle in the Sand", " Leave a Light On", and "Heaven Is a Place on Earth". MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. In 1966, MCA formed Uni Records and in 1967, purchased Kapp Records which was placed under Uni Records management. History The early years In 1937, the owner of Decca, E. R. Lewis, chose to split off the UK Decca company from the US company (keeping his US Decca holdings), fearing the financial damage that would arise for UK Companies if the emerging hostilities of Nazi Germany should lead t ...

Half The World (Belinda Carlisle Song)

The song was written by Richard Feldman, Eric Pressly and Ellen Shipley, and produced by Feldman. It features backing vocals from Sheryl Crow. Music video A music video was produced to promote the single. Critical reception Upon its release as single, ''Music & Media'' described the song as a "lushly orchestrated ballad". David Quantick of ''NME'' criticized it as "gourmet toss ordinaire" and "a weedy ' Time After Time' clone ballad". He was more favorable towards the version of "Live Your Life Be Free which appears as a B-side on the single, describing it as "a belting verse which suggests Carlisle could be the punk rock Suzi Quatro of the 21st century". In a retrospective review of ''Live Your Life Be Free'', Justin Kantor of AllMusic noted the song's "elegant arrangement" and "timeless melody", the latter of whi ...

Live Your Life Be Free
''Live Your Life Be Free'' is the fourth studio album by American singer Belinda Carlisle, released in 1991 by MCA Records in the United States and Virgin Records in the UK. This was the first of Carlisle's albums not to chart in the United States and the last album of hers to produce a U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 single ("Do You Feel Like I Feel?", number 73). The album fared better in the UK, where it peaked at number seven. Carlisle co-wrote two of the tracks on the album: "Loneliness Game" and "Little Black Book" (which went to number 28 in the UK Singles Chart). The song "You Came Out of Nowhere" begins with a sample from the opening of "Nobody Told Me", a song by John Lennon that was released in 1984. Reception and chart performance The reception of ''Live Your Life Be Free'' was not as good as her previous albums. ''Rolling Stone'' wrote "Carlisle merely stirs up a nostalgia for carefree girl groups singing gooey love songs – giving ''Live Your Life'' a certain gidd ...

Summer Rain (Belinda Carlisle Song)
"Summer Rain" is a song written by Robbie Seidman and Maria Vidal, produced by Rick Nowels for Belinda Carlisle's third album ''Runaway Horses'' (1989). The power ballad is about a man who goes away to war and leaves his wife, saying that nothing will change—they will be together forever and always. Although the conflict is unidentified, images in the video of a transport aircraft on an airfield and troops parachuting from transport aircraft suggest the man is an airborne soldier. The song is set in the present as his widow sings it, remembering the last time she saw him. It was released around the world in 1990 and was issued as a CD single, 7-inch single and a 12-inch single. The song had reasonable success on the charts reaching the top 30 in the United States and the United Kingdom. In Australia, it reached the top 10, peaking at number six. It was later covered by artists including Slinkee Minx, whose 2004 cover version charted higher than the original in Australia, reac ...
