Antanas Lingis (26 December 1905 – 6 June 1941) was a Lithuanian footballer who played as a forward for LFLS Kaunas and the Lithuania national team. For Lithuania he scored 12 goals in 33 appearances, which at the time was the record number of goals scored by an individual player for Lithuania. The first match he played for Lithuania was on 25 July 1928, a 3–0 loss against Latvia. His last cap was on 11 June 1938, a 2–0 loss against Estonia. Antanas Sniečkus
Antanas Sniečkus ( – 22 January 1974) was a Lithuanian communist politician who served as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Lithuania from 15 August 1940 to 22 January 1974. Biography Sniečkus was born in 1903, in the village of Būbleliai, near Šakiai. During the First World War, his family fled to Russia where he observed the Russian revolution of 1917. In 1919, his family returned to Lithuania; by 1920 he was already a member of the Bolshevik Party. In the same year, he was arrested for anti-government activities. He was released from prison on bail, but fled to Moscow, and became an agent of the Comintern. In Moscow, he earned the trust of Zigmas Angarietis and Vincas Mickevičius-Kapsukas, and became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania. Antanas Smetona
Antanas Smetona (; 10 August 1874 – 9 January 1944) was a Lithuanian intellectual and journalist and the first President of Lithuania from 1919 to 1920 and again from 1926 to 1940, before its occupation by the Soviet Union. He was one of the most important Lithuanian political figures between World War I and World War II, and was one of the most prominent ideologists of nationalism in Lithuania. Antanas Škėma (; November 29, 1910 – September 11, 1961) was a Lithuanian writer, playwright, stage actor and director. His best known work is the novel ''Balta drobulė'' (''White Shroud''). Life and career Antanas Škėma was born on November 29, 1910 (according to his birth certificate in 1911) in Łódź, Poland where his father was sent to work as a teacher. During World War I he lived in Russia with his parents. In 1921 they all returned to Lithuania. He attended high schools in Radviliškis and Kaunas. Antanas Sileika (Antanas Šileika; born 1953) is a Canadian-Lithuanian novelist and critic. Biography Sileika was born in 1953 in Weston, Ontario to Lithuanian-born parents. After completing an English degree at the University of Toronto, he moved to Paris for two years and there married his wife, Snaige Sileika (née Valiunas), an art student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. While in Paris, he studied French, taught English in Versailles, and worked as part of the editorial collective of the expatriate literary journal, ''Paris Voices'', run from the upstairs room of the bookstore, Shakespeare and Company. Antanas Račas (August 28, 1940 – February 9, 2014) was a Lithuanian politician. In 1990 he was among those who signed the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania. Račas graduated from Sakiai District Kiduliai secondary school. In 1962–1967, studied Germanic languages in Vilnius University where he received a degree in philology. He later worked in various schools. In 1976, was fired from Kelme District Saukenai secondary school for "relations with anti-Soviets and clerics". Antanas Pocius (19 August 1913 – 1 April 1983) was Lithuanian choirmaster, organist and composer. Early life Antanas Pocius was born on 19 August 1913, in Pagiriai village, close to Tauragė in what was then Russian Empire in a very poor family and received a name of his grandfather, a village musician. A. Pocius was born very weak but survived the infancy nevertheless and was the fifth child in the family. Due to challenging economic conditions, all the children would serve as shepherds, with A. Pocius starting at the age of four. Antanas' father Petras Pocius fought in the First World War and was injured in his lungs, which caused the development of tuberculosis.
