Ans, Belgium
Ans (; wa, Anse) is a municipality and city of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. On January 1, 2006, Ans had a total population of 27,322. The total area is 23.35 km² which gives a population density of 1,170 inhabitants per km². Its postal code is 4430. Ans is the finish location of the road bicycle race Liège–Bastogne–Liège, the oldest of the classic cycle races held every April. Ans is bounded with Liège, Seraing, Herstal, Saint-Nicolas and Flémalle, the agglomeration of Liège with 600,000 people. Liège (province)
Liège ( , , ; wa, Lîdje ; nl, Luik ; german: Lüttich ) is a major city and municipality of Wallonia and the capital of the Belgian province of Liège. The city is situated in the valley of the Meuse, in the east of Belgium, not far from borders with the Netherlands (Maastricht is about to the north) and with Germany (Aachen is about north-east). In Liège, the Meuse meets the river Ourthe. The city is part of the '' sillon industriel'', the former industrial backbone of Wallonia. It still is the principal economic and cultural centre of the region. Saint-Nicolas (; wa, Sint-Nicolai-dlé-Lidje) is a municipality of Wallonia located ine the province of Liège, Belgium. It is effectively a part of the greater Liège conurbation stretching west from Liège city centre towards Liège Airport. As of January 1, 2006 Saint-Nicolas had a total population of 22,666. The total area is 6.84 km2 which gives a population density of 3,313 inhabitants per km2. It has the highest population density of any Belgian municipality outside the Brussels-Capital Region. Granges-d'Ans
Granges-d'Ans (; oc, Granges d'Ans) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. As part of the Pays d'Ans, it shares a link with the neighbouring communes of Badefols-d'Ans, La Boissière-d'Ans, Chourgnac d’Ans, Sainte-Eulalie-d'Ans and Saint-Pantaly-d'Ans. Twin town Since 1999, the Granges d'Ans and its neighbouring communes in Pays d'Ans have been twinned with the Belgian town of Ans. Victor Larock
Victor Joseph Léonard Larock (6 October 1904, in Ans – 24 April 1977, in Madrid) was a Belgian politician for the country's Socialist Party. Biography Larock was the son of a miner. He obtained his doctor's title in literature and philosophy at the University of Liège in 1926 and in sociology at the Sorbonne. During his studies of sociology in Paris he first came in contact with the leftist intellectuals there. From 1932 to 1949 he was a lecturer in history at the Royal Atheneum of Ixelles and the ''Institut des Hautes Etudes'' in Ghent. From the mid-1930s until the eve of the Second World War, he was the editor of several left-leaning magazines. During the war, he clandestinely continued his occupation. He was briefly arrested in 1941 but did not cease his editorial activities. At the time of the liberation from Nazi German occupation he was editor of '' Le Peuple'', a job which he took over from Bracops, who was arrested. Michel Daerden (16 November 1949 – 5 August 2012) was a francophone Belgian politician, a member of the '' Parti Socialiste'', and a finance auditor. Daerden was born in Baudour, Belgium. Léon Jeck (8 February 1947 – 24 June 2007) was a Belgian international footballer. He was a tough-tackling centre-back for Standard Liège and played against Russia and Mexico in the 1970 World Cup Finals.
