''Another Place'' is a studio album by American jazz band Hiroshima, released in 1985 by Epic Records. The album was notably the first gold record released by the band and was on the Billboard jazz chart for over a year. Reception '' Billboard'' referred the album as an "interesting, though rather lightweight, brand of pop/fusion." AllMusic rated the album two stars out of five. Hiroshima (band)
Hiroshima is an American band formed in 1974 that incorporates Japanese instruments in its music. Hiroshima has sold over four million albums around the world. Biography Dan Kuramoto, Hiroshima's leader, is from East Los Angeles. He attended California State University, Long Beach, then led its Asian-American studies department. Through playing in a band on weekends he met June Kuramoto, a native of Japan who grew up in Los Angeles and played ''koto'', a Japanese stringed instrument. Kuramoto admired Earth, Wind, and Fire for the way it combined jazz and R&B, and Santana for his identification with Latinos. He wanted to create a band that would represent Asian Americans. He named it after the Japanese city Hiroshima, which was mostly destroyed by an atomic weapon at the end of World War II. Jazz-funk Albums
Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat (groove), electrified sounds, and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre whose spectrum is quite wide and ranges from strong jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals. The ''Billboard'' charts tabulate the relative weekly popularity of songs and albums in the United States and elsewhere. The results are published in '' Billboard'' magazine. ''Billboard'' biz, the online extension of the ''Billboard'' charts, provides additional weekly charts, as well as year-end charts. The ''Billboard'' 200 is a record chart ranking the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. It is published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine and is frequently used to convey the popularity of an artist or groups of artists. Often, a recording act will be remembered by its " number ones", those of their albums that outperformed all others during at least one week. The chart grew from a weekly top 10 list in 1956 to become a top 200 list in May 1967, and acquired its current name in March 1992. John Pfahl
John Pfahl (February 17, 1939 – April 15, 2020) was an American photographer. Life Pfahl was born in New York City and grew up in Wanaque, New Jersey. He is known for his landscape photography such as his 1974 "Altered Landscapes" series. He received a BFA from Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts and his MA from Syracuse University's S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He taught at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York, from 1968 to 1983. Later he was professor at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. In 2012 he taught at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. Pfahl died from COVID-19 on April 15, 2020, in Buffalo, New York during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
