Anodyne Records was founded in 1997 in Kansas City by John Hulston, beginning with the live ''Making Love'' EP by Kansas City rock band Shiner.Hebert, Steve. ''The New York Times'' (May 12, 2010): "owned by John Hulston, who also runs Anodyne Records, which counts the Meat Puppets, the BellRays and Architects among its better-known acts." Over the years, there were albums from Onward Crispin Glover, Dirtnap, Overstep, The Hearers, and Open Hand. Starting in 2005, Anodyne Records began growing; signing bands such as The Architects, Roman Numerals, The Valley Arena & the legendary Meat Puppets. In 2008, Anodyne Records began working on new releases from Open Hand, The BellRays, Sirhan Sirhan and The Vox Jaguars. Meat Puppets
Meat Puppets are an American rock band formed in January 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. The group's original lineup was Curt Kirkwood (guitar/vocals), his brother Cris Kirkwood (bass guitar/vocals), and Derrick Bostrom (drums). The Kirkwood brothers met Bostrom while attending Brophy Prep High School in Phoenix. The three then moved to Tempe, Arizona (a Phoenix suburb and home to Arizona State University), where the Kirkwood brothers purchased two adjacent homes, one of which had a shed in the back where they regularly practiced. Meat Puppets started as a punk rock band, but like most of their labelmates on SST Records, they established their own unique style, blending punk with country and psychedelic rock, and featuring Curt's warbling vocals. Meat Puppets later gained significant exposure when the Kirkwood brothers served as guest musicians on Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance in 1993. Open Hand
Open Hand is an American rock band, first formed in Hollywood, California in 1997. History Open Hand was formed in Hollywood, California in 1997 by guitarist/vocalist Justin Isham. With bassist Michael Anastasi and drummer Alex Rodriguez, they released two EPs on Justin's own label, American Propaganda: Radio Days in 1998 and Evolutions in 1999. After touring, the band signed with Trustkill Records in 1999. In 2000, Trustkill issued ''The Dream'', a collection of the band's two EPs and bonus unreleased material. They went on to release the album "You and Me" in 2005 on Trustkill / Roadrunner Records. The band went on to tour extensively all over the world from 2005 to 2009. Open Hand released their next album, ''Honey,'' on Anodyne Records in 2010. On April 20, 2020, the band released a remixed, remastered, and re-sequenced version of ''Honey'' for its 10th anniversary. Shiner is an American post-hardcore/alternative rock band from Kansas City, Missouri that was active from 1992 to 2003. Since 2012 Shiner has been playing several shows a year. The band's new record ''Schadenfreude'' was released May 8, 2020, with touring to follow that was since cancelled due to COVID-19. The Vox Jaguars
The Vox Jaguars was a North American garage rock revival band that formed in Santa Cruz, California in 2006, influenced by artists such as The Stooges, MC5, and The Velvet Underground. The Vox Jaguars have performed with The Fiery Furnaces, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Grand Ole Party, and Scissors For Lefty. Career The original lineup featured Jordan Topf (vocals, guitar), Justin Fisher (keyboard), and Mason Rosenberg (drums). They began their career with performances in local coffee houses and record stores. Fisher left the band to attend college in Portland which led to an addition of new personnel and rearrangements. Mason Rosenberg moved to bass, and Trevor Hope was introduced to drums. The second incarnation of the Vox Jaguars was a power trio in 2007.
