Annois
Annois () is a commune in the department of Aisne in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. Geography Annois is located some 33 km northwest of Laon and 30 km east of Roye. It is accessed by road D937 from Cugny in the west and continuing east to Flavy-le-Martel. There is also the D32 from Saint-Simon to Flavy-le-Martel passing through the northeast of the commune. Branching from this road is the D431 which goes to the village. A railway line passes through the heart of the commune from west to east but the nearest station is the Flavy-le-Martel station outside the eastern border of the commune. The commune is mostly farmland with some forest on the northern and southern edges of the commune. The ''Canal de Saint-Quentin'' passes just to the north of the commune and there are large ponds in the north of the commune connected to the canal. Château De Ham
The Château de Ham (also called fort or forteresse de Ham) is a castle in the ''commune'' of Ham in the Somme ''département'' in Hauts-de-France, France. History The early castle, whose construction date is unknown, is mentioned in a 1052 charter. During the 13th century, it was restored by Odon IV of Ham who gave the fortress its definitive shape, a polygonal enceinte broken up by large cylindrical towers. Enguerrand de Coucy bought the seigneury in 1380 and his daughter sold it in 1400 to Louis d' Orléans, who integrated it into his network of fortresses which included La Ferté-Milon, Pierrefonds and Fère-en-Tardenois. Canal De Saint-Quentin
The Canal de Saint-Quentin () is a canal in northern France connecting the canalised river Escaut in Cambrai to the Canal latéral à l'Oise and Canal de l'Oise à l'Aisne in Chauny. History The canal was built in two phases, the second much longer than the first. The king's ministers Colbert and Mazarin had both proposed linking the rivers Oise and Somme in the 17th century and this resulted in the Canal Crozat, or Canal de Picardie, between Chauny and Saint-Simon in 1738. The remainder, connecting the Seine Basin with the Escaut was a lengthy process. The original designer, Devicq in 1727, died in 1742. Little was accomplished until Napoléon demanded that work begin again in 1801. He officiated at the opening in April 1810.
