Annie-for-Spite
''Annie-for-Spite'' is a 1917 silent film directed by James Kirkwood and starring Mary Miles Minter. The film is based upon the 1916 short story ''Annie for Spite'' by Frederick J. Jackson. As with many of Minter's features, it is thought to be a lost film. Plot As described in film magazines, Annie Johnson (Minter) is a homely orphan girl, who works in a department store and helps a widow take care of her six children in exchange for a place to stay. Despite her poverty, she dreams that she will one day be adopted by a rich old lady who will provide her with whatever she might want. Meanwhile Mrs. Nottingham (Le Brandt), a wealthy widow, is looking for an heir. Her only son has died, and she does not wish to leave her fortune to her daughter-in-law, whom she dislikes, and to her grandson whom she has never met. Eugenie Forde
Eugenie Forde (June 22, 1879 – September 5, 1940) was an American silent film actress. She starred in 73 films between 1912 and 1927 in films such as ''The Diamond from the Sky'' (1915) and '' Wives and Other Wives'' with actors such as Charlotte Burton and William Garwood. Forde retired from acting in 1924, but a trip to Europe spurred her to return to the profession. She found that her films were still being shown in Europe, and fans there encouraged her to resume her career. She returned to the screen in '' That's My Baby'' (1926). She was the mother of actress Victoria Forde. George Periolat
George Periolat (February 5, 1874 – February 20, 1940) was an American actor. Biography Born in Chicago, Illinois, George Periolat began his career as a Broadway actor. Making his film debut with the Essanay Studios in Chicago, he moved to Hollywood in 1911 and starred in over 170 films throughout his career. He was a very versatile actor, often playing multiple roles in a single production, as when he played two leading characters, the count and the crook, in the 1916 production of '' The Counterfeit Earl''. The story of Norma Desmond, though fictitious, is not far removed from the plight of many silent film stars, and the advent of the sound film brought about a swift end to Periolat's career. He made his last appearance in 1932's ''What Price Hollywood?''. On February 20, 1940, he committed suicide by ingesting arsenic in his Hollywood mansion.
