Annecy Italian Film Festival
The Annecy Italian Film Festival (french: Festival du Cinéma Italien d'Annecy), founded in 1983 and since then, each year shows the best of contemporary Italian cinema. The private festival is held annually (usually in October) at the Centre Culturel de Bonlieu, in the town of Annecy, in the middle of France. The 28th edition took place from 28 September to 5 October 2010. The President of the Jury was Italian film actress Anna Bonaiuto. Festival History The festival, created in 1983, was a shared initiative of the Cultural Center of Annecy (now Bonlieu Scène Nationale) and the Italian Cultural Institute of Grenoble. The programming is made up of both contemporary and classical movies. The competition, first organised in 1985, is supervised by a jury of cinema professionals who have met every year in Annecy since then. In 1988, Sergio Leone was named the jury's president. Annecy
Annecy ( , ; frp, Èneci or ) is the prefecture and largest city of the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of Southeastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, south of Geneva, Switzerland. Nicknamed the "Pearl of French Alps" in Raoul Blanchard's monograph describing its location between lake and mountains, the city controls the northern entrance to the lake gorge. Due to a lack of available building land between the lake and the protected Semnoz mountain, its population has remained stagnant, around 50,000 inhabitants, since 1950. However, the 2017 merger with several ex-communes extended the city population to 128,199 inhabitants and 177,622 for its urban area, placing Annecy seventh in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences. Jury Prize (Annecy Film Festival)
The Jury Prize (french: Prix du Jury) is an award of the Cannes Film Festival bestowed by the jury of the festival on one of the competing feature films. It is the third-most prestigious prize of the festival after the Palme d'Or and the Grand Prix, and it was considered a "second place" award until after the latter award was introduced. According to American film critic Dave Kehr, the award is "intended to recognize an original work that embodies the spirit of inquiry." History The award was first presented in 1946. The prize was not awarded on 10 occasions (1947, 1949, 1953, 1967, 1974–79, 1981–82, 1984, and 2001). The festival was not held at all in 1948, 1950, and 2020.
