Anne Young (nurse)
Anne Young (5 August 1907 – June 1976) was an Irish nurse and founder of the nursing school at St James's Hospital, Dublin. Background and education Young was born in Rathcabbin, County Tipperary, where her parents were farmers. Young had two sisters and two brothers. She attended Rathcabbin National School in Rathcabbin and St John's Convent School in Birr, County Offaly. Young then moved to England, where she completed her general nursing training at Great Yarmouth General Hospital in 1930, qualifying in midwifery in 1932. In 1935, she graduated from the University of Leeds with a diploma in nursing, following by a certificate in housekeeping from University College Hospital in London. Career Young worked as a nurse manager in Great Yarmouth and London from 1933 to 1935. From 1936 to 1937, she was a nursing tutor in Maidstone. Rathcabbin
Rathcabbin (''Ráth Cabáin'' in Irish) often Rathcabban is a small village and an electoral district situated at the very north of County Tipperary in Ireland. The village is located off the R489 regional road between Portumna, County Galway and Birr, County Offaly. It is 5 km east of the River Shannon and Lough Derg. The village contains 2 bars (Kelly's and Brophy's) and a village shop (Kelly's). The modern church of Our Lady Queen of Ireland stands at the focal point crossroads of the village. The church was dedicated in 1984. Rathcabbin was used as a filming location for the 2007 film ''Garage''. Parts of the film were shot in the village over a six-week period in summer 2006, and the film's premiere was held in Rathcabbin in 2007. Maidstone is the largest Town status in the United Kingdom, town in Kent, England, of which it is the county town. Maidstone is historically important and lies 32 miles (51 km) east-south-east of London. The River Medway runs through the centre of the town, linking it with Rochester, Kent, Rochester and the Thames Estuary. Irish Nurses And Midwives Organisation
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is the largest Irish professional union for nurses and midwives with 35,000 members. It was founded in 1919 after World War I, when a group of Irish nurses and midwives had a meeting in Dublin to discuss the issues in promoting an improvement in wages and advocating for a standard to be set for the conduction of their duties in the medical profession. This new organisation focused on increasing awareness towards tackling problems of pay and pension. They encouraged participation in recognising these changes by recruiting new members and establishing a standard for nursing and midwifery practice through educational initiatives. They were originally known as the ‘Irish Nurses Union’. In the 1930s, they began to promote their campaigns internationally by becoming affiliated with the International Council of Nurses. Jervis Street Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Shráid Jervis) was a hospital in Jervis Street in Dublin, Ireland. The site of the hospital became the Jervis Shopping Centre. History The hospital was founded by six Dublin surgeons, George Duany, Patrick Kelly, Nathaniel Handson, John Dowdall, Francis Donany and Peter Brenan, at their own expense, as the Charitable Infirmary in Cook Street, Dublin, in 1718. The hospital moved to larger premises on King's Inn's Quay in 1728. In 1786, when the new Four Courts were about to be erected on the quays, an agreement was reached with the Earl of Charlemont to allow the hospital to move into his former mansion at 14 Jervis Street, which happened in October 1796.
