Anne Yelverton
Anne Yelverton (1628–1698) was Countess of Manchester and Countess of Halifax. Biography Anne Yelverton was born in 1628. She was the daughter of Sir Christopher Yelverton, 1st Baronet, and Anne Twysden. She married Robert Montagu, 3rd Earl of Manchester, son of Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester, and Lady Anne Rich, on 27 June 1655. They had five sons and four daughters: *Hon. Sir Christopher Yelverton, 1st Baronet
Sir Christopher Yelverton, 1st Baronet (27 March 1602 – 4 December 1654) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1640 to 1648. Yelverton was the son of Henry Yelverton, a lawyer, and his wife Margaret Beale, daughter of Robert Beale. He was a grandson of Christopher Yelverton, who was Speaker of Parliament. He was educated at Gray's Inn (1607) and Queens' College, Cambridge (1619), after which he spent several years touring Europe. He succeeded his father in 1630 and was appointed High Sheriff of Northamptonshire for 1639–40. In November 1640, Yelverton was elected Member of Parliament for Bossiney in the Long Parliament. He was created a baronet, of Easton Mauduit in the County of Northampton, on 30 June 1641. Although not excluded under Pride's Purge he did not sit in parliament after 1648. Robert Montagu, 3rd Earl of Manchester JP (baptised 25 April 1634 – 14 March 1683) was an English courtier and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1671 when he inherited the peerage as Earl of Manchester. Early life Montagu was born in the parish of St. Margaret's, Westminster, and baptised there on 25 April 1634. He was the only son of Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester and his second wife Lady Anne Rich, daughter of Robert Rich, 2nd Earl of Warwick. Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester, KG, KB, FRS (16025 May 1671) was an important commander of Parliamentary forces in the First English Civil War, and for a time Oliver Cromwell's superior. Charles Montagu, 1st Earl Of Halifax
Charles Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax, (16 April 1661 – 19 May 1715), was an English statesman and poet. He was the grandson of the 1st Earl of Manchester and was eventually ennobled himself, first as Baron Halifax in 1700 and later as Earl of Halifax in 1714. As one of the three members of the so-called Whig Junto, Montagu played a major role in English politics under the reigns of King William III and Queen Anne. He served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1694 to 1699 and as First Lord of the Treasury from 1714 until his death the following year. He was also president of the Royal Society and a patron of the scientist Isaac Newton. George Montagu (28 July 1622 – July 1681) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1640 and 1679. Montagu was born at Westminster, the son of Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester. He was at school in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, under Dr Croke and was admitted at Christ's College, Cambridge, on 21 March 1639. He was awarded MA in 1640 and admitted at the Middle Temple in the same year. In November 1640, Montagu was elected Member of Parliament for Huntingdon in the Long Parliament and sat until 1648. In August 1660, Montagu was elected MP for Dover in the Convention Parliament. In 1661 he was re-elected MP for Dover in the Cavalier Parliament and sat until 1679. He was Master of the Hospital of St Katharine-by-the-Tower, London, from 1661 to 1681. Montagu died in 1681 and was buried at St Katharine-by-the-Tower in July.
