Anne Jones (writer)
Anne Patricia Jones (born 28 July 1955) is an Australian writer, editor, and administrator. She is one of two working directors of ToadShow Pty Ltd, a Brisbane-based design company, where she is managing partner and company chair. In 1981 she was co editor of ''Semper Floreat'' the University of Queensland student newspaper.Leo, J & Nunan, K. (1994) ‘Women Working in the Arts (Profiles of Women Arts Workers).’ Brisbane: Department of Education, Queensland. In 1982 and 1983 she was station coordinator of 4ZZZ. Semper Floreat
''Semper Floreat'' (Latin: "May it always flourish") is the student newspaper of the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia. It has been published continuously by the University of Queensland Union (UQ Union) since 1932, when it began as a fortnightly newsletter of only a few pages, produced by one editor. Recent History In 2014, ''Semper'' (as it is colloquially known) became a 48-page, monthly magazine that employs a full-time editor, deputy editor and 8 part-time editors The editors are elected annually by the student body. In 2017, ''Semper'' reduced its magazine publications to three for the year, and relaunched its website. 4ZZZ
4ZZZ (pronounced "Four Triple Zed" or simply "Triple Zed") is an independent community radio station operating in Brisbane, Australia at the frequency 102.1 FM. As a community radio station, 4ZZZ is a member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA). The station broadcasts to much of South East Queensland, parts of northern New South Wales and web streams from its website. History 4ZZZ was established to provide a radical alternative to mainstream news, to promote a sense of engagement and activism in community life and to promote Australian music. The station began transmission on 8 December 1975 as 4ZZ at 105.7 MHz, the first FM community broadcaster in Brisbane transmitting in stereo. The Cane Toad Times
''The Cane Toad Times'' was a satirical humour magazine based in Brisbane, Queensland. It was first published in the late 1970s, then revived under the same name by a new team from 1983–1990. The two versions shared personnel and featured roughly the same counter-cultural philosophy, irreverent journalism, strident opinion and fondness for satire, cartoons and popular culture. The editors and contributors of ''The Cane Toad Times'' were motivated by opposition to political events and attitudes in Queensland under the Bjelke-Petersen Government (1968–1987). The first issue of ''The Cane Toad Times'' was published in May, 1977 and thereafter more or less quarterly, with 22 issues divided between two collectives. Federated Miscellaneous Workers Union
The Federated Miscellaneous Workers' Union (F.M.W.U.), commonly known as the 'Missos', was an Australian trade union which existed between 1915 and 1992. It represented an extremely diverse and disparate range of occupations, but its core support came from workers employed in cleaning and security services. Formation The union was first established on 6 May 1910 as the Watchmen, Caretakers and Cleaners Union of New South Wales (W.C.C.U.), which was created by the Organising Committee of the New South Wales Labor Council. The task of organisation was a difficult one due to the casualised and isolated nature of the occupations covered. Under the leadership of the first Secretary of the WCCU, Joe Coote, the union adopted a pragmatic approach to increasing union membership by including any workers not already represented by trade unions, such as paintmaking employees. Street Arts
Street Arts Community Theatre Company was a theatre company in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was founded in October 1982 in West End, Brisbane, by Denis Peel, Pauline Peel, Steve Capelin and Andrea Lynch. Street Arts was preceded in Brisbane by the agitprop ensemble the Popular Theatre Troupe. While continuing in the Popular Theatre Troupe's tradition of satire and radical political commentary, the Street Arts approach was to create theatre and circus by enabling disadvantaged communities. Healthy Land and Water Limited (formerly Healthy Waterways) is an Australian not-for-profit organisation using evidence-based research and monitoring of South East Queensland waterways to determine catchment health.
