Anne Hamilton, Countess Of Huntly
Anne Hamilton, Countess of Huntly (c. 1535 – after 17 April 1574), was a Scottish noblewoman and a member of the powerful Hamilton family which had a strong claim to the Scottish crown. Her father James Hamilton, Duke of Châtellerault, 2nd Earl of Arran was heir presumptive to the throne of Scotland after Mary, Queen of Scots prior to the birth of the latter's son Prince James in 1566. Anne was the wife of George Gordon, 5th Earl of Huntly, Lord Chancellor of Scotland and a chief conspirator during the reign of Queen Mary. In her teens, Anne entered Marie of Guise's household as a lady-in-waiting and maid-of-honour. Family Lady Anne was born in Scotland in about 1535, the eldest daughter of James Hamilton, Duke of Châtellerault, 2nd Earl of Arran and Lady Margaret Douglas. Anne Hamilton, 3rd Duchess Of Hamilton
Anne Hamilton, 3rd Duchess of Hamilton (6 January 1632 – 17 October 1716) was a Scottish peeress. The daughter of Sir James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Hamilton and 3rd Marquess of Hamilton, Scottish General and premier peer of the realm, and Lady Mary Feilding, daughter of William Feilding, 1st Earl of Denbigh, and his wife, the former Lady Susan Villiers, a sister of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham. She was born at the Palace of Whitehall in London, where her mother was a Lady of the Bedchamber to Henrietta Maria of France, wife of King Charles I of Scotland and of England. Accession Following the 1st Duke's execution for his part in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms in 1649, his brother, William, Earl of Lanark, inherited the titles and lands. Lord Anne Hamilton (12 October 1709 – 25 December 1748) was a Scottish nobleman. He is said to have married the richest woman in the UK and they had a child. Early life Hamilton was born at St. James's Square, London, the third son of Lieutenant-General James Hamilton, 4th Duke of Hamilton, and his wife the Honourable Elizabeth Gerard, daughter of Digby Gerard, 5th Baron Gerard. His feminine forename is due to his being named after his godmother, Queen Anne. Hamilton's other godparents were John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough and Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland. Anne Hamilton, Duchess of Hamilton (1720 – 9 March 1771) formerly Anne Spencer, was the third wife of James Hamilton, 5th Duke of Hamilton. Life She was the daughter of Edward Spencer of Rendlesham, Suffolk, where she was born. Thus she was the sister of Elizabeth Spencer, later the wife of Sir James Dashwood, 2nd Baronet, and the aunt of the future Anne Stewart, Countess of Galloway. His second wife having died in 1729, the duke married Anne Spencer on 21 August 1737. They had three children: *Lady Anne Hamilton (1738–1780), who married Arthur Chichester, 1st Marquess of Donegall, and had children *Archibald Hamilton, 9th Duke of Hamilton (1740–1819) *Lord Spencer Hamilton (1742–1789) who died unmarried in Paris. Anne Hamilton, 2nd Countess Of Ruglen
Anne Hamilton, 2nd Countess of Ruglen (5 April 1698 – 21 April 1748), was the daughter of John Hamilton, 1st Earl of Ruglen,** and his wife Anne. She was born in Cramond, Scotland. She married William Douglas (c.1696–1731), who inherited the earldom of March in 1705. Shortly before her own death, she remarried, her second husband being Anthony Sawyer, Esq, who held the position of Paymaster to the King's forces in Scotland. There were no children from this second marriage. Her son from her first marriage, William, born in 1724, inherited the earldom of March from his father in 1731 and the earldom of Ruglen from his mother in 1748, but in 1778 inherited the dukedom of Queensberry from a cousin, Charles Douglas.
