Ann Clarke (immunologist)
Ann G. Clarke (née Jewkes) is a British immunologist and co-founder of the Frozen Ark project. Career Clarke's research focused on the immunological relationship between mouse mothers and embryos. For six years she was an Inspector for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. She and her husband, Bryan Clarke, made several scientific expeditions to French Polynesia, where they realised that the '' partula'' snail was facing rapid extinction after the introduction of a predator as a biological control for a different species. Inspired by this, they and Anne McLaren (1927–2007) founded the Frozen Ark project to preserve the DNA of species threatened with extinction. the project held some 48,000 frozen samples from 5,500 species. Anne Clarke (theatre Producer)
Anne Clarke (born 13 April 1961) is an Irish theatre producer. She founded Landmark Productions in 2003. She was awarded the Special Tribute Award in the Irish Times Theatre Awards for 2015, 'in recognition of her extraordinary work as a producer of world-class theatre in the independent sector in Ireland'. At the awards ceremony, a tribute video was played, which featured contributions from writer Enda Walsh and actors Cillian Murphy, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Brendan Gleeson, Brian Gleeson and Domhnall Gleeson, amongst others. Anne Clarke (theatre Manager)
Anne Clarke née Remans (born 1806), was a pioneering actor, singer and theatre manager in Tasmania, Australia, significant as the first woman to manage an Australian theatre, being director of the Theatre Royal, Hobart, in 1840–1847. Life Anne Remans and fellow-actor Dinah Rudelhoff were brought out to Tasmania from England in 1834 under a sponsorship scheme, and first appeared with J. P. Deane's company, which at the time was playing at the Argyle Rooms in Hobart. Deane was early criticised for unfairly monopolizing their services. This was just one year after the introduction of professional theatre in Tasmania by the travelling company of Samson and Cordelia Cameron from England, and only two years after the first professional performance in Australia, at Barnett Levey's Royal Hotel in Sydney in December 1832. making her one of the first professional actors active in Australia. Nancy Clarke (entrepreneur)
Nancy Clarke (died 1812) was a Barbadian hotelier and free woman of colour who was known for the continued success of the Royal Naval Hotel. According to Professor Pedro Welch of the University of the West Indies, Clarke's history is indicative of the ingenuity Barbadian women of colour used in the 19th century to secure emancipation from slavery for themselves and others. Biography Clarke took over the management of the Royal Naval Hotel in 1791, upon the death of Rachael Pringle Polgreen. The hotel became one of the most popular in Bridgetown, under Clarke's management, though she was known for her temper. A popular song of the time captured her fit of jealousy, which resulted in Clarke throwing acid in the face of another woman. The hotel was frequented by sailors and soldiers, which beyond board and accommodation, provided women for domestic or sexual services. Anne (Annie) Clarke is an Australian archaeologist and heritage specialist. She is a professor of archaeology and heritage at the University of Sydney. Clarke is a leading scholar in Australian archaeology, both historical and Aboriginal, as well as critical heritage studies. She has specialisms in archaeobotany, contact archaeology and rock art. Education Clarke obtained a BA (hons) from the Institute of Archaeology, University of London in 1980. In 1989 she obtained a MA from the University of Western Australia with a thesis titled ''An Analysis of Archaeobotanical Data from Two Sites in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory.'' Anne Marie Bates Clarke is an American-born British Labour Party politician who has been the London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden since 2021. She represented Childs Hill on Barnet Council from 2018 to 2022, and has represented Cricklewood since 2022.
