It is a flat valley bottom which includes the helipad as well as a golf course in the city. Annadale has also an army cantonment with an Army Heritage Museum. Due to its lush green environment, historical importance and first seen place by every VVIP visit, it is also known as the "Heart of Shimla". Etymology The region in which Annadale is located was first documented in 1834, in the East Indian United Service Journal. When British officers saw the area for the first time, they found it similar to the Annandale valley in Dumfriesshire or County of Dumfries in Scotland, and decided to name it after the Scottish location because most of the officers hailed from the Scotland's Annandale. History Annadale opened on May 14, 1860, when the Staten Island Railway was extended from Eltingville, one stop to the north. The original station building was replaced in 1910, moved a short distance, expanded into a residence, and finally moved to Historic Richmond Town in 1975. The 1910 station was rebuilt in 1939 as part of a grade crossing elimination project. The station was rehabilitated in the 1990s as part of an SIR-wide upgrade/platform lengthening project. Station layout The station is located in a shallow open cut at Annadale Road and Sneden Avenue on the main line. It has two side platforms and light orange color walls and tiles. 	Annadale Grammar School Annadale Grammar School for Boys was an all-boys school located on the Annadale Embankment skirting the River Lagan in south Belfast, Northern Ireland. In 1990, Annadale Grammar School (all boys) amalgamated with Carolan Grammar School (all girls) and became known as Wellington College Belfast. Name The name "Annadale" originated from Anne Hill, mother of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.
