Anna Thomas
Anna Thomas (born July 12, 1948) is a German-born American author, screenwriter, and film producer. She is best known as the author of the 1972 vegetarian cookbook, ''The Vegetarian Epicure'', which contributed to the rise of the vegetarian movement of the 1970s. She is currently Discipline Head of the Screenwriting department at the American Film Institute. Education While at the film school at UCLA Thomas wrote, produced and directed her master's thesis film, a dramatic feature titled '' The Haunting of M'', a turn of the century ghost story, shot in Scotland. The screenplay was written by Gregory Nava and Anna Thomas, based on Nava's story. The movie was first presented at the Telluride Film Festival in 1983, and its wide release was in January 1984. The drama features Zaide Silvia Gutiérrez and David Villalpando, in their first film roles, as two Indigenous peoples of the Americas, indigenous youths who flee Guatemala due to the ethnic and political persecution of the Guatemalan Civil War. The Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay is the Academy Award for the best screenplay not based upon previously published material. It was created in 1940 as a separate writing award from the Academy Award for Best Story. Beginning with the Oscars for 1957, the two categories were combined to honor only the screenplay. Ojai ( ; Chumash: ''’Awhaỳ'') is a city in Ventura County, California. Located in the Ojai Valley, it is northwest of Los Angeles and east of Santa Barbara.
