Anna Falkenberg
Anna Falkenberg (born 4 January 1996) is a Faroese politician who has been serving as Member of the Folketing for the Union Party since 1 November 2022 where she was elected as part of the 2022 Danish general election. Falkenberg is the second ever Faroese woman to be elected to the Danish parliament. Career and education Falkenberg graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a Master's degree in political science. Falkenberg began her career in 2019 as a political advisor to her grandfather and Member of the Folketing Edmund Joensen. Union Party (Faroe Islands)
The Union Party ( fo, Sambandsflokkurin, also translated Unionist Party) is a conservative-liberal, agrarian political party on the Faroe Islands. The party wants to maintain the Faroe Islands' union with Denmark. On 24 October 2015 Bárður á Steig Nielsen succeeded Kaj Leo Johannesen as party leader. In the elections in 2008, the party won 21.0% of the popular vote and 7 out of 33 seats. After having been in the opposition for a short interval after the elections, the Union Party formed a new government in September 2008, and Kaj Leo Johannesen became prime minister. In the Danish parliamentary elections of 2007, the party received 23.5% of the Faroese vote, thereby gaining one of the two Faroese seats in the national legislature of Denmark. Edmund Joensen
Edmund Esbern Johannes Joensen (born 19 September 1944 in Oyri on Eysturoy) is a Faroese politician, who was the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands from 1994 to 1998. From 2015 to 2022 served as a member of the Danish Folketing, being one of two Faroese seats in parliament. He did not stand in the 2022 Danish general election and his granddaughter Anna Falkenberg replaced him as Member of the Folketing for the Union Party of which Joensen is a member. 2022 Danish General Election
General elections were held in the Kingdom of Denmark on 1 November 2022, except in the Faroe Islands, where they were held on 31 October as 1 November was a national day of mourning for victims at sea. Of the 179 members of the Folketing, 175 were elected in Denmark proper, two in the Faroes and two in Greenland. The elections were called on 5 October following an ultimatum to the government by the Social Liberal Party (which had been providing external support) due to the outcome of a report on the 2020 Danish mink cull by the Mink Commission, which was critical of the government. Voter turnout was 84% in Denmark, 48% in Greenland, and 71% in the Faroes with a combined turnout of 84% for the Realm as a whole.
