Ankie Stork
Ankie Stork (c. 1922 – November 23, 2015) was a Dutch resistance fighter during the German occupation of the Netherlands. She is credited with saving thirty-five Jewish children from the Nazis by hiding them around the town of Nijverdal during World War II. Stork acted as part of , a Dutch resistance group based in Utrecht. Other prominent members of the group included the publisher, Geert Lubberhuizen. Stork, a member of the Hengelose manufacturing family, was the daughter of Johan Charles Stork, the director of the Koninklijke Stoombleekerij in Nijverdal. She became a lecturer and spokesperson after the war. Enschede
Enschede (; known as in the local Twents dialect) is a municipality and city in the eastern Netherlands in the province of Overijssel and in the Twente region. The eastern parts of the urban area reaches the border of the German city of Gronau. The municipality of Enschede consisted of the city of Enschede until 1935, when the rural municipality of Lonneker, which surrounded the city, was annexed after the rapid industrial expansion of Enschede which began in the 1860s and involved the building of railways and the digging of the Twentekanaal. Nijverdal
Nijverdal () is a town of approximately 25,000 inhabitants in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is the commercial centre of the municipality Hellendoorn. Nijverdal (which means ''Industrious Valley'') was founded in 1836 on the territory of the hamlet Noetsele. It was here that the industrial revolution in the Netherlands took root. Thomas Ainsworth (1795–1841) was one of its ''founding fathers''. Textile production was the focus of industrial activity in Nijverdal, as it was for the rest of the Twente region. Some of the traditional factory buildings in the Art Deco or Jugendstil style still remain. A river called the '' Regge'' runs through the town, and is the historical border between the two regions Twente and Salland, and the border of two Dutch dialects, which are Twents and Sallaands, respectively.
