Anjanaharibe-Sud Reserve
Anjanaharibe-Sud Special Reserve is a wildlife reserve in the north-east of Madagascar. The reserve was designated in 1958 and contains some of the last intact primary rainforest, along with several, rare and endemic animals and plants. The area was nominated to the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites in Madagascar in 2008, as an extension of the rainforests of the Atsinanana. Geography The special reserve of Anjanahraibe-Sud is located in the Sava Region in north-eastern Madagascar, some south-west of the village of Andapa. It has an area of and the main part of the reserve is between , with peaks up to . There is, on average, over of rain each year and there is little difference in temperatures between the warm season of November to April, , and the cool season of May to October . Andapa is a town and commune ( mg, firaisana) in northern Madagascar. It belongs to the district of Andapa, which is a part of Sava Region. According to 2001 commune census the population of Andapa was 27,618. Andapa is served by a local airport. It is also a site of industrial-scale mining. The majority 88% of the population are farmers, while an additional 0.5% receives their livelihood from raising livestock. Sclerophyll is a type of vegetation that is adapted to long periods of dryness and heat. The plants feature hard leaf, leaves, short Internode (botany), internodes (the distance between leaves along the stem) and leaf orientation which is parallel or oblique to direct sunlight. Marojejy National Park
Marojejy National Park () is a national park in the Sava region of northeastern Madagascar. It covers and is centered on the Marojejy Massif, a mountain chain that rises to an elevation of . Access to the area around the massif was restricted to research scientists when the site was set aside as a strict nature reserve in 1952. Takhtajania
''Takhtajania'' is a genus of flowering plants of the family Winteraceae, which contains a single species, ''Takhtajania perrieri''. It is endemic to Madagascar. ''Takhtajania'' is found in a small area of the Madagascar subhumid forests. It is a small evergreen tree or shrub, with shiny green lance-shaped leaves and reddish-pink flowers. The first known specimen of the plant was collected in 1909 on the Manongarivo Massif of central Madagascar at an elevation of 1700 meters. Montane ecosystems are found on the slopes of mountains. The alpine climate in these regions strongly affects the ecosystem because temperatures fall as elevation increases, causing the ecosystem to stratify. This stratification is a crucial factor in shaping plant community, biodiversity, metabolic processes and ecosystem dynamics for montane ecosystems. Dense montane forests are common at moderate elevations, due to moderate temperatures and high rainfall.
