Animorphs
''Animorphs'' is a science fantasy series of children's books written by Katherine Applegate and her husband Michael Grant, writing together under the name K. A. Applegate, and published by Scholastic. It is told in first person, with all six main characters taking turns narrating the books through their own perspectives. Horror, war, dehumanization, sanity, morality, innocence, leadership, freedom, family, and growing up are the core themes of the series. The series was originally conceived as a three-part series called ''The Changelings'', in which Jake was named Matt, and his little brother Joseph took the place of Cassie. Published between June 1996 and May 2001, the series consists of 54 books and includes ten companion books, eight of which fit into the series' continuity (the ''Animorphs Chronicles'' and ''Megamorphs'' books) and two that are gamebooks not fitting into the continuity (the ''Alternamorphs'' books). The Invasion (novel)
''The Invasion'', published in 1996 and written by K. A. Applegate, is the first book in the ''Animorphs'' series. It is narrated by Jake. Plot summary Young teenagers Jake and Marco leave the mall one evening. On the way out, they meet Rachel and Cassie, who are together, and Tobias—all children from their school—and decide to walk home together. While taking a shortcut through an abandoned construction site, an alien spacecraft lands nearby. The badly injured alien pilot, an Andalite named Prince Elfangor, emerges from the ship and explains to the children that the Earth is being invaded in secret by a race of aliens called the Yeerks, a slug-like parasitic species who infest humans through their ear canals and take complete control of the human's body, turning them into what is called a Controller. Animorphs Chronicles
The ''Animorphs Chronicles'' is a series of 4 books written by K. A. Applegate alongside the main series as a companion collection to detail the backstories of characters introduced in the series, and help explain and expand upon concepts that were briefly defined in the series, but, as the series is told from a human point of view, were limited in terms of what could only be explained through in-story dialogue. Four ''Chronicles'' books were published; ''The Andalite Chronicles'' in 1997, ''The Hork-Bajir Chronicles'' in 1998, '' Visser'' in 1999 (the only Chronicles book not to feature the words "the" or "chronicles" in its title), and ''The Ellimist Chronicles'' in 2000. David Burroughs Mattingly (born June 29, 1956) is an American illustrator and painter, best known for his numerous book covers of science fiction and fantasy literature. Early life and career Mattingly was born in and grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, and was inspired at age twelve to enter the visual arts, and discovered matte art. Mattingly first attended Colorado Institute of Art, then transferred to Art Center College of Art and Design. He left from there to take a job as a matte artist at Disney Studios. There he worked on the production of '' The Black Hole''. He also worked on films including ''Tron'', '' Dick Tracy'', '' The Watcher in the Woods'', and Stephen King's ''The Stand'' miniseries.
