Animal Planet (stylized in all lowercase since 2018) is an American multinational pay television channel owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery Networks unit of Warner Bros. Discovery. First established on June 1, 1996, the network is primarily devoted to series and documentaries about wild animals and domestic pets. The channel was originally a joint venture with BBC Worldwide, and primarily focused on nature documentaries surrounding wildlife, targeting a family audience. In 2008, Animal Planet rebranded with a more mature programming direction, with a greater emphasis on aggressive and predatory portrayals of animals, as well as an increase in documentary-style reality series following personalities involved in animal-related occupations and investigations. Animal Planet (European TV Channel)
The Pan-European Animal Planet is a feed of Animal Planet, which broadcasts to several countries in Europe, UK, Africa and the Middle East. The channel is broadcast in English, Czech, Hungarian and formerly Russian. The HD feed also carries a Turkish audio track. Turkey has its own SD feed. The channel also carries DVB subtitle tracks in Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Greek, Macedonian, Norwegian, Romanian, Serbian, Slovenian and Swedish. There used to be a separate feed for Romania, but the channel closed down in 2013. Animal Planet Nordic is a television channel broadcasting nature-related documentaries to the Nordic countries. Animal Planet was launched in the Nordic region in 1997. In 2001, the channel received a license to broadcast in the digital terrestrial network in Sweden. By 2008, the channel had regularly been one of the twenty most watched channels in Sweden for a few years. From 2007, the channel is also broadcast terrestrially in Norway via the RiksTV package. For its first ten years in existence, the channel used a logo with a globe and an elephant which was also used by its sister channels. On 1 October 2008 the channel switched a new logo, which had previously been adopted by Animal Planet in the United States. Animal Planet is a television channel which launched locally in Australia exclusively on Optus Television in October 1999. The channel is dedicated to programming that highlights the relationship between humans and animals. It has since expanded to multiple carriers. It was added to Foxtel on 1 December 2003 in Australia and screen on Sky in New Zealand. It was formerly available on SelecTV from March 2007 until the closure of its English service in late 2010. Animal Planet is a German television channel broadcasting programmes about animals, nature, and wildlife to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. An agreement to launch the channel exclusively on the Premiere platform was signed by Discovery Networks Deutschland and Premiere in October 2003. The channel launched at 9 pm on 31 March 2004. Animal Planet is a Polish television channel and was launched in Poland in October 1997. From the very beginning the channel broadcast documentaries devoted to animals and wildlife. The broadcast of the channel was created specially for the needs of the Polish market. In September 2003, the channel updated its logo and got a new slogan - "Wciągnie cię". The change was accompanied by a new schedule and an advertising campaign. On 1 October 2008, the channel scrapped the old Animal Planet logo with an elephant and a globe and started using the new logo which had previously been introduced in the United States.
