Anima Roy
Anima Roy is a Bangladeshi academic and Rabindra Sangeet singer. As of 2014, she has been serving as a professor in the Music and Drama Department of Jagannath University. Early life Roy learned music from Debasish Chakrabarty, Sadhon Chandra Barman and Surbani Lalitakala Academy. Then she was trained under Waheedul Haq, Sanjida Khatun and Mita Haque. She completed a Rabindra Sangeet course from Chhayanaut. Career Roy is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Music of Jagannath University; previously she was a faculty at the Drama Department of the University of Dhaka. She has released six albums of Tagore songs. Her fifth album was named ''Robir Alo'' - it included contributions by Indian singer Prothush Banerjee. Rabindra Sangeet
''Rabindra Sangeet'' ( bn, রবীন্দ্র সঙ্গীত; ), also known as Tagore Songs, are songs from the Indian subcontinent written and composed by the Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore, winner of the 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Indian and also the first non-European to receive such recognition. Tagore was a prolific composer with approximately 2,232 songs to his credit. The songs have distinctive characteristics in the music of Bengal, popular in India and Bangladesh. It is characterised by its distinctive rendition while singing which includes a significant amount of ornamentation like meend, murki, etc. and is filled with expressions of romanticism. Chhayanaut
The Chhayanaut Sangeet Vidyatan ( bn, ছায়ানট) is an institution devoted to Bengali culture, founded in Bangladesh in 1961. As in the case of many similar organizations, it was established during Pakistani rule in Bangladesh to promote and nurture the cultural and musical heritage of Bengal. Every year, Chhayanaut arranges activities in order to celebrate the Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali new year. In 2015 Chhayanaut was conferred with the prestigious Tagore Award for promoting cultural harmony. The University of Dhaka (also known as Dhaka University, or DU) is a public research university located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is the oldest university in Bangladesh. The university opened its doors to students on July 1st 1921. Currently it is the largest public research university in Bangladesh, with a student body of 46,150 and a faculty of 1,992. Mita Haque
Mita Haque (6 September 1962 – 11 April 2021) was a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer. She had 14 solo musical albums released from India and 10 musical albums released in Bangladesh. She was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2020 for her contributions to music. Career Haque's mentors were Sanjida Khatun and her paternal uncle Waheedul Haq. At the age of eleven, she participated at the International Children's Festival in Berlin. Later in 1976 she started taking formal music lessons from tabla player Mohammad Hossain Khan. Haque used to run a music school ''Surtirtha''. She also served as the head of the Rabindra Sangeet Department at Chhayanaut Sangeet Bidyayatan in Dhaka.
