Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, PVSM, AVSM is a retired Indian Navy Flag officer, who served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command from 2014 to 2015. He previously served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command from 1 November 2011, after having served as Director General Indian Coast Guard from 2008. Naval career He joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1975. and commanded the corvette INS ''Kuthar'' (1993–94), the destroyer INS ''Rajput'' (2000-2001) and the aircraft carrier, INS ''Viraat'' (2003-2004). Vice admiral is a three-star flag officer rank in the Indian Navy. It is the second-highest active rank in the Indian Navy. Vice admiral ranks above the two-star rank of rear admiral and below the four-star rank of admiral, which is held by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS). Vice Admiral Surinder Pal Singh Cheema PVSM, AVSM, NM is a former Flag Officer in the Indian Navy. He last served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western and Southern Naval Commands. Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, PVSM, AVSM, NM & Bar, ADC is a former Three star Admiral of the Indian Navy. Military career Sinha joined the Navy in 1974 in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy. Operations Parakram Medal is a military award of India. It was awarded in recognition of the services of Armed Forces personnel and civilians in Operation Parakram. All ranks of the Indian Armed Forces including Territorial Army, Auxiliary and Reserve Forces, Nursing officers and other members of the Nursing services and other lawfully constituted Armed Forces who were involved in the operation were awarded the medal. Sangram Medal
The Sangram Medal was awarded for service during the 1971/72 war with Pakistan. Eligibility for being awarded the medal was extended to all categories of personnel who served in the military, paramilitary forces, police, and civilians in service in the operational areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, or Tripura between 3 December 1971 and 20 December 1972 (both dates inclusive). Medals awarded to police and paramilitary forces were, in most cases, not officially manufactured and issued, but were, instead, made locally by independent manufacturers. Policemen could either buy them from these shops or the battalions could buy them and give them to the qualifying constables.
