Angus Derby
The Angus derby is a football rivalry that is based in Angus, Scotland. Matches are contested between any two SPFL clubs from Arbroath, Montrose, Forfar Athletic and Brechin City. All four sides regularly compete within the same leagues and therefore often face each other, and it is rare to find a season without a matchup between at least two of the Angus teams. History Entry into the SFL Arbroath and Forfar were both admitted into the Scottish Football League in the 1921–22 season entering the new reformed Second Division, expanded from the old pre war division. Brechin and Montrose joined 2 years later in 1923–24 with the newly formed third division. The division only lasted for 2 full years, however, before being scrapped due to financial difficulties. Glebe Park, Brechin
Glebe Park is a football stadium in Brechin, Scotland, which is the home ground of Brechin City. Glebe Park opened in 1919. The ground had just one portable stand, which had been used at the Perth agricultural show. Brechin City joined the Scottish Football League in 1929, when a pavilion was added and the Cemetery End terrace was covered. The biggest ever attendance was 8,123, against Aberdeen in a Scottish Cup tie played on 3 February 1973. This attendance was greater than the population of Brechin. Floodlights were installed and used for the first time in 1977, in a match against Hibernian. The old stand was replaced by a new Main Stand, with 290 seats, in 1981. Sponsorship by the Stewart Milne group and a Football Trust grant of £210,000 financed the construction of a 1,228 seat stand at the Trinity Road end of the ground. Ian Stewart (Scottish Footballer)
Ian Stewart (born 1946) is a Scottish former football player and manager. Stewart worked as a civil servant while being involved in football on a part-time basis. He was player/manager of Brechin City in the late 1970s, but left that position in January 1980 to become manager of Arbroath. Stewart was sacked by Arbroath in November 1983, despite losing only 39 out of 132 league matches in charge. Arbroath had narrowly missed out on promotion in each of the previous two seasons. Soon after leaving Arbroath, he was appointed manager of Montrose. He guided Montrose to promotion in 1984–85. Simon Murray (footballer)
Simon Murray (born 22 March 1992) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Scottish Premiership club Ross County. After beginning his senior career with Montrose, Murray played for several junior clubs before returning to senior football with Arbroath in 2014. He signed for Dundee United in January 2015, but initially remained with Arbroath on loan. After two seasons in the United first team, Murray moved to Hibernian in 2017. He spent the latter part of the 2017–18 season on loan at Dundee, then moved to South African club Bidvest Wits in July 2018. He returned to Scotland during 2020, when he signed for Queen's Park, with whom he would lead the side in back-to-back league titles and a rise to the Scottish Championship. The 1888–89 Scottish Cup was the 16th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. 3rd Lanark RV beat Glasgow rivals Celtic (making their Cup début) 2–1 in a replayed final. Tay Bridge
The Tay Bridge ( gd, Drochaid-rèile na Tatha) carries the railway across the Firth of Tay in Scotland between Dundee and the suburb of Wormit in Fife. Its span is . It is the second bridge to occupy the site. Plans for a bridge over the Tay to replace the train ferry service emerged in 1854, but the first Tay Bridge did not open until 1878. It was a lightweight lattice design of relatively low cost with a single track. On 28 December 1879, the bridge suddenly collapsed in high winds. The incident is one of the greatest bridge-related engineering disasters to have occurred. An enquiry determined that the bridge was insufficiently engineered to cope with high winds. Kelty (Scottish Gaelic: Cailtidh) is a former coal mining village located in Fife, Scotland. Lying in the heart of the old mining heartlands of Fife, it is situated on the Fife/Kinross-shire boundary and has a population of around 6,000 residents. The 2018–19 Scottish League One (known as the Ladbrokes League One for sponsorship reasons) was the 24th season in the current format of 10 teams in the third-tier of Scottish football. The fixtures were published on 15 June 2018 and the season began on 4 August 2018. Ten teams contested the league: Airdrieonians, Arbroath, Brechin City, Dumbarton, East Fife, Forfar Athletic, Montrose, Raith Rovers, Stenhousemuir and Stranraer.
