Angelo Vaccarezza
Angelo Vaccarezza (born 1965) is an Italian politician. Biography Vaccarezza became involved in politics as a young man, having taken up a local council post after periods of service at the Teletrill communications firm and a brief period as a broker. He became involved in the Forza Italia movement, supporting the leadership of Claudio Scajola. Political career Vaccarezza has been involved in politics in Loano for 21 years, first as a councillor and later as an ''Assessor (Italy), assessor''; he was on 30 May 2006 elected to a second term as mayor of the city with a 60% share of the vote. In provincial elections in June 2009 he scored a ballot victory over Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party candidate Michele Boffa to become President of the Province of Savona. The province of Savona ( it, provincia di Savona; Ligurian: ''provinsa de Sann-a'') is a province in the Liguria region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Savona, which has a population of 61,219 inhabitants. The province has a total population of 279,754. History Savona was first settled by the Ligurian tribe of the Sabazi, who supported the Carthaginians in the Punic Wars. This support of the Carthaginian Empire led to Savona being conquered by the Roman Empire. During the Middle Ages, Savona allied with Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor and fought against Genoa. In 1440 it also fought against Genoa during its war against the Visconti of Milan; in response, Genoa sacked the city and destroyed the port and shipping. Claudio Scajola (; born 15 January 1948 in Imperia (city), Imperia) is an Italian politician, current Mayor of Imperia (city), Imperia.
