Angelo Torres
Angelo Torres (born April 14, 1932, in Santurce, Puerto Rico) is an American cartoonist and caricaturist whose work has appeared in many noteworthy comic books, as well as a long-running regular illustrator for '' Mad''. EC Comics Torres was friends with artist Al Williamson in the early 1950s and occasionally assisted him on work for EC Comics with fellow artists Frank Frazetta and Roy Krenkel (known as the Fleagle Gang). The story which was to be Torres' first solo EC story, "An Eye for an Eye" in ''Incredible Science Fiction ''#33 (Jan.-Feb. 1956), was rejected by the Comics Code and did not see print for the first time until 1971. Ângelo Torres (born 14 April 1968), is a Portuguese actor and director of São Toméan descent. He is best known for the roles in the films ''Kunta'', ''Hay Road'' and ''Magnetick Pathways''. Personal life He was born on 14 April 1968 in Equatorial Guinea. His parents were São Toméans and Torres has 24 brothers, though only three are from the same father and mother. At the age of six, he left Equatorial Guinea and moved to Cuba, where he studied engineering until the age of 21. After seven years in Cuba, he moved to Portugal to study at a Polytechnic institute in Lisbon. Later, he made his acting debut in the production ''Por ser preto''. He is married to a Galician–speaking Spanish woman and the couple has one daughter, Mar. Career His maiden cinema acting came through the film ''A Ilha dos Escravos''. ''Blazing Combat'' was an American war-comics magazine published quarterly by Warren Publishing from 1965 to 1966. Written and edited by Archie Goodwin, with artwork by such industry notables as Gene Colan, Frank Frazetta, John Severin, Alex Toth, and Wally Wood, it featured war stories in both contemporary and period settings, unified by a humanistic theme of the personal costs of war, rather than by traditional men's-adventure motifs. ''Eerie'' was an American magazine of horror comics introduced in 1966 by Warren Publishing. Like '' Mad'', it was a black-and-white magazine intended for newsstand distribution and did not submit its stories to the comic book industry's voluntary Comics Code Authority. Each issue's stories were introduced by the host character, Cousin Eerie. Its sister publications were ''Creepy'' and ''Vampirella''. Publication history The first issue cost 35¢, was published in September 1966 and only had a 200-issue run of an "ashcan" edition. With a logo by Ben Oda, it was created overnight by editor Archie Goodwin and letterer Gaspar Saladino to establish publisher Jim Warren's ownership of the title when it was discovered that a rival publisher (later known as Eerie Publications) would be using the name. ''Piracy'' is an EC Comics title published in the mid 1950s. The bi-monthly comic book, published by Bill Gaines and edited by Al Feldstein, began with an issue cover-dated October–November 1954. It ran for seven issues, ending with the October–November 1955 issue. Front covers were by Wally Wood, Reed Crandall, Bernard Krigstein and George Evans. The stories of adventure on the high seas were illustrated by Wood, Crandall, Krigstein, Jack Davis, Al Williamson, Graham Ingels and Angelo Torres. ''Piracy'' was reprinted (in black and white) as part of publisher Russ Cochran's '' The Complete EC Library''. Between March and September 1998, Cochran (in association with Gemstone Publishing) reprinted all seven individual issues.
