Angelo Cruz
Angelo "Monchito" Cruz (born September 20, 1958) is a former Puerto Rican professional basketball player. He was born in New York. Coming out of the Patterson Projects in the Bronx, "Monchito" was a New York City Playground legend by the time he finished High School at DeWitt Clinton High School; he first played 2 or 3 years at All Hallows High, both in the Bronx. After playing at Bethany Nazarene College (OK) and Essex (NJ) County College, he moved on to play professionally in Puerto Rico. Career Career in Puerto Rico Cruz began his career in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional in 1977, when he was 18 years old. He played for the Indios de Canóvanas for 13 seasons. He led Canóvanas to back-to-back championships in 1983 and 1984 and recorded his 1,500th assist in 1988. Patterson Houses
The Lester Patterson Houses or Patterson Houses is a public housing development in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx, New York City. It was named after Bronx assemblyman and judge Lester W. Patterson. It is one of the largest New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) complexes in the city with fifteen buildings 6 and 13-stories tall and 1,790 apartments. It spans an area of , which is located between East 138th and 145th Street and covers two main avenues, Third Avenue and Morris Avenue. Development Construction on the Patterson Houses began in 1948 and were a part of a large push to build public housing developments in the five boroughs. Basketball at the 1988 Summer Olympics was the twelfth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at the Jamsil Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea from 17 September to 30 September 1988. The United States won the gold medal in the women's competition, repeating their performance from the 1984 tournament. In the men's tournament, the Soviet Union took home their second gold medal in the team's history for this event. In the team, Baltic basketballers were overrepresented: Sabonis, Chomičius, Kurtinaitis and Marčiulionis were Lithuanian, Miglinieks was Latvian, and Kaj Sokk was Estonian. The 1984 Tournament of the Americas, since 2005 called the FIBA Americas Championship or FIBA AmeriCup, was the 2nd edition of this basketball tournament, hosted in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 15–24 May 1984. The outcome would determine the three berths allocated to the Americas for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics and five berths for the 1986 FIBA World Championship in Spain. Robert Montgomery Knight (born October 25, 1940) is an American former basketball coach. Nicknamed "the General", Knight won 902 NCAA Division I men's college basketball games, a record at the time of his retirement, and currently fourth all-time, behind his former player and assistant coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, Roy Williams of University of North Carolina Men’s Basketball, and Jim Boeheim of Syracuse, of whom Boeheim is still active.
