Andy Wozniewski
Andrew Pera Wozniewski (born May 25, 1980) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Toronto Maple Leafs, St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins. Playing career Undrafted, Wozniewski played collegiate hockey for the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He signed his first pro contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on May 27, 2004. He scored his first NHL goal October 11, 2007 for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the New York Islanders. Andy was signed as a free agent by the St. Louis Blues on July 17, 2008, and later assigned to the Blues affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen. Wozniewski was recalled to the Blues on February 1, 2009. He played in one game with the Blues before he was reassigned to the Rivermen. Wozniewski was traded from the Blues to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Danny Richmond on March 4, 2009. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). Wisconsin Badgers Men's Ice Hockey
The Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents the University of Wisconsin–Madison in Madison, Wisconsin. The team plays at the Kohl Center and is coached by Tony Granato. The Badgers ice hockey team competes in the Big Ten Conference. The Badgers have won three WCHA regular season conference titles and 11 conference tournament titles. Texas Tornado
The Texas Tornado were a Junior A hockey team located in Frisco, Texas, USA. The team joined the North American Hockey League's Central division in 1999 (and moved into the newly formed southern division three years later) while located in North Richland Hills, Texas, and enjoyed unprecedented success since their expansion year. The Tornado played their home games at the 6,000-seat Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. On May 13, 2006, the Tornado won their third straight Robertson Cup by defeating the Bozeman Icedogs. This accomplishment would be the first time in over 15 years that a team won three consecutive Robertson Cups. On May 8, 2012, the Tornado won their 5th Robertson Cup in team history by defeating the St. Louis Bandits 4-3 in overtime. Hockey East
The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference. Hockey East came into existence in 1984 for men's hockey when most of its current members split from what is today known as ECAC Hockey, after disagreements with the Ivy League members. The women's league, the WHEA, began play in 2002. On October 5, 2011, the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish (an ACC member outside football) announced they would be joining Hockey East as the conference's first non-New England school in 2013 after the CCHA folded. USHL
The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in NCAA college hockey. Dubuque Fighting Saints (1980-2001)
The Dubuque Fighting Saints are a Tier I junior ice hockey team playing in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and are based in the city of Dubuque, Iowa, on the banks of the Mississippi River at the intersection of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Home games are played at the Dubuque Ice Arena (capacity: 3,079). History Re-establishment of the Fighting Saints and early success The original Dubuque Fighting Saints played at the multi-purpose Dubuque Five Flags Center arena situated in downtown Dubuque from 1980 to 2001. Penalty (ice Hockey)
A penalty in ice hockey is a punishment for an infringement of the rules. Most penalties are enforced by sending the offending player to a penalty box for a set number of minutes. During the penalty the player may not participate in play. Penalties are called and enforced by the referee, or in some cases, the linesman. The offending team may not replace the player on the ice (although there are some exceptions, such as fighting), leaving them short-handed as opposed to full strength. When the opposing team is said to be on a ''power play'', they will have one more player on the ice than the short-handed team. The short-handed team is said to be "on the penalty kill" until the penalty expires and the penalized player returns to play. While standards vary somewhat between leagues, most leagues recognize several common varieties of penalties, as well as common infractions. In ice hockey, point has three contemporary meanings. Personal stat A point is awarded to a player for each goal scored or assist earned. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points. The Art Ross Trophy is awarded to the National Hockey League (NHL) player who leads the league in scoring points at the end of the regular season. Team stat Points are also awarded to assess standings (or rankings). Historically, teams were awarded two points for each win, one point for each tie and no points for a loss.
