Andy Mota
Andrés Alberto Mota Matos (born March 4, 1966) is a former Major League Baseball player and current player agent. Early life Mota was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and is the son of former major league player Manny Mota, as well as the brother of José Mota and cousin of José Báez. Mota attended Golden West College. He then attended California State University, Fullerton. Baseball career Mota was initially drafted in the sixth round of the 1985 amateur draft by the Kansas City Royals, but did not sign. In 1987, he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 12th round. Mota signed with the Astros and was assigned to the short-season Class A Auburn Astros of the New York–Penn League, where he hit .263 in 70 games. In 1988, Mota was again assigned to Auburn, where he won the league batting title, hitting .352 in 72 games. Mota made his Major League debut on August 31, 1991. The Kansas City Royals are an American professional baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. Afro-Dominicans (also referred to as African-Dominicans or Black Dominicans) are Dominicans of predominant Black African ancestry. They are a minority in the country representing 7.8% of the Dominican Republic's population according to a census bureau survey in 2022. Dozens of father-and-son combinations have played or managed in Major League Baseball (MLB). The first was Jack Doscher, son of Herm Doscher, who made his debut in 1903. Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. became the first father-and-son duo to play in MLB at the same time, in 1989 when Ken Jr. was called up by the Seattle Mariners while Ken Sr. was playing with the Cincinnati Reds. New York–Penn League
The New York–Penn League (NYPL) was a Minor League Baseball league that operated in the northeastern United States from 1939 to 2020. Classified as a Class A Short Season league, its season started in June, after major-league teams signed their amateur draft picks to professional contracts, and ended in early September. In 2019, its last season of operation, the NYPL had 14 teams from eight different states. In addition to New York and Pennsylvania, from which the league drew its name, the NYPL also had clubs in Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Vermont, West Virginia, and Connecticut. The Brooklyn Cyclones were the last NYPL champions, defeating the Lowell Spinners, two games to one, in 2019.
