Andy McCabe
Andrew O. McCabe (1945 – 4 December 2021) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played at club level with Crosserlough and at inter-county level with the Cavan senior football team. He usually lined out as a defender. Career McCabe first played Gaelic football with the Crosserlough club. He captained the club's minor team to championship success in 1963, the senior team to league victory in 1964 and two years later in 1966 he captained the Crosserlough senior team to the first of their seven-in-a-row run of championship victories. McCabe joined the Cavan senior football team during the 1966-67 National League, having spent a number of seasons with the Cavan junior team. He won Ulster Championship medals in 1967 and again in 1969 as Cavan defeated Down on both occasions. McCabe's displays for Cavan earned him a call up to the Ulster panel and he was a key player for a number of years, winning Railway Cup medals in 1970 and 1971. Death McCabe died on 4 December 2021. Cavan ( ; ) is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is bypassed by the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north). History Gaelic Cavan 1300–1607 Cavan was founded by the Irish clan chief and Lord of East Breifne, Giolla Íosa Ruadh O’Reilly, between 1300 and his death in 1330. During his lordship, a friary run by the Dominican Order was established close to the O’Reilly stronghold at Tullymongan and was at the centre of the settlement close to a crossing over the river and to the town's marketplace. Crosserlough Gaelic Footballers
Crosserlough, historically known as ''Cros Ar Loch'', is a large civil parish in southern County Cavan, in the province of Ulster, Ireland. It is located between Ballyjamesduff and Lough Sheelin. The parish consists of three areas. Kilnaleck, which is a village, Drumkilly and Crosserlough. The latter is a small settlement at the northern edge of the eponymous townland. Facilities There are three schools in the parish, Kilnaleck, Drumkilly and Crosserlough. There are three Catholic Churches in Crosserlough, St Mary's Church (the Parish Church) in the townland of Cullow, in the Crosserlough area. This church was built in 1888. There is also a Church of Ireland church at Kildrumferton. 1969 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1969 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 83rd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 4 May 1969 and ended on 28 September 1969. Down entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Cavan in the Ulster final. On 28 September 1969, Kerry won the championship following a 0-10 to 0-7 defeat of Offaly in the All-Ireland final. This was their 21st All-Ireland title, their first in seven championship seasons. Kerry's Mick O'Dwyer was the choice for Texaco Footballer of the Year. 1967 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1967 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 81st staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 23 April 1967 and ended on 24 September 1967. Galway entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Mayo in the Connacht semi-final. On 24 September 1967, Meath won the championship following a 1-9 to 0-9 defeat of Cork in the All-Ireland final. This was their third All-Ireland title and their first in thirteen championship seasons. Cavan's Charlie Gallagher was the championship's top scorer with 1-25. Cavan Senior Football Championship
The Cavan Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the top Cavan Gaelic football clubs. It was first competed for in 1888. The winners get the Oliver Plunkett Cup and qualifies to represent their county in the Ulster Club Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Cornafean have won the most titles, having been victorious 20 times. The current Senior football champions are Gowna after beating Killygarry in the final of 2022. Format 12 teams will contest the Hotel Kilmore Senior Football Championship. The championship shall be run on a league basis up to the Quarter-Final stage and Knock-out thereafter. Each team will play 4 rounds in the league phase against different opponents with the fixtures decided by a random draw at the conclusion of each round. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. Down GAA
The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960.
