Andy Hull
John Andrew Hull (born November 7, 1986) is an American singer, musician and songwriter. He serves as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary songwriter of the indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. He also has a side project, Right Away, Great Captain!, as well as being co-founder of a side project with his friend and folk musician Kevin Devine by the name of Bad Books. Hull is also co-president of Manchester Orchestra's label, Favorite Gentlemen. Early life Hull was born in Atlanta, Georgia. Hull lived in Richmond Hill, Ontario with his family for seven years before returning to Atlanta when he was 14 years old. His parents bought him a guitar which he taught himself to play. A year later, he began writing and performing songs with a friend who played bass guitar. After that group disbanded, he started another with Manchester Orchestra's keyboard player, Chris Freeman, on drums. The Smiths
The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. They comprised the singer Morrissey, the guitarist Johnny Marr, the bassist Andy Rourke and the drummer Mike Joyce. They are regarded as one of the most important acts to emerge from the 1980s British independent music scene. The Smiths signed to the independent label Rough Trade Records in 1983 and released their first album, ''The Smiths'', in 1984. They based their songs on the songwriting partnership of Morrissey and Marr. Their focus on a guitar, bass, and drum sound and a fusion of 1960s rock and post-punk was a rejection of the synth-pop sound that was predominant at the time. ''Bad Books'' is the debut album from the folk/indie rock collaboration project by folk artist Kevin Devine and members of indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. It was released digitally on October 19, 2010, and with a physical CD copy following on November 9, 2010 through Manchester Orchestra's own label Favorite Gentlemen Recordings. Six songs on the album were written by Kevin Devine, with the other five written by Andy Hull. The album was recorded at Manchester Orchestra's own studio by band member Robert McDowell. The album's artwork was designed by band member Chris Freeman and Brian Manley. On August 25, 2010, "You Wouldn't Have to Ask" was offered as a free download on the band's official website. ''The Million Masks of God'' is the sixth studio album by American indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. It was released through Loma Vista on April 30, 2021. The album was announced on February 18, 2021, alongside the release of the first single "Bed Head". ''A Black Mile to the Surface'' is the fifth studio album by American indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. It was released on July 21, 2017, through Loma Vista Recordings and Favorite Gentlemen. Recording for the album took place from the summer of 2016 onwards with producer Catherine Marks. The lead single, " The Gold", was released on June 9, 2017, alongside a music video directed by Mike Dempsey and Johnny Chew. ''Cope'' is the fourth studio album from Atlanta-based indie rock band Manchester Orchestra. It was released on April 1, 2014 through Loma Vista Recordings and the band's own independent label, Favorite Gentlemen. The album was self-produced alongside their long-time collaborating partner Dan Hannon, and mixed by John Agnello at Fluxivity Studios in Brooklyn.
