Andwella
Andwella were a Northern Irish psychedelic rock band formed in 1968, originally as The Method and later renamed Andwellas Dream. The trio were fronted by Dave Lewis (Guitar/keyboard/vocals), with Nigel Smith (bass/vocals) and Gordon Barton (drums).Larkin C 'Virgin Encyclopedia of Sixties Music' (Muze UK Ltd, 1997) ) p14 Their first album, as Andwellas Dream, ''Love and Poetry'', was recorded in London in 1968, and featured jazz musician Bob Downes on saxophone and flute, and Wilgar Campbell on drums on the track "Felix". However, the album failed to sell, and Lewis then recorded a solo album, privately pressed, on the Ax label in 1970; which included new versions of some of the Andwella's Dream songs. Then in 1970 David Lewis wrote the music for and produced poet David Baxter's "Goodbye Dave" album, for which he was backed by Andwella. Dave Lewis (British Musician)
Dave Lewis (born 18 February 1951) is a singer-songwriter and musician from Northern Ireland. He was a member of the bands Method, Andwella's Dream, and Andwella. Personal background David Llewellyn Lewis was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He started writing and performing songs during his childhood. By the time he was 12, his mother was getting him guest spots in Belfast social clubs and bars at a time when people such as the comedian Frank Carson were headlining. Having mastered both guitar and piano, he left school at 15 and starting working in Belfast's main music shop Crymbals, which was the epicentre of the Belfast music scene at that time. ''Love and Poetry'' is the first studio album by British psychedelic band Andwella's Dream. It was released in 1969 on CBS Records. Background ''Love and Poetry'' was composed entirely by band member Dave Lewis. It captures the true original sounds of Irish psychedelic rock. Relatively unknown, this album has achieved certain cult status after 40 years and is eagerly sought after by collectors of the genre. It is featured in Record Collector's Top 100 British Psychedelic Records of the 1960s. The producer was Rocky Shahan (Shahan Chowdhury) who played bass in The Konrads, a band which included David Bowie in an early line-up. He represented Pakistan in the V Festival Internacional da Canção in Rio with the song "The Best Man" in 1970. Wilgar Campbell
Wilgar William Campbell (1946 – October 1989) was an Irish blues rock musician, best known for his role as drummer with Rory Gallagher in the early 1970s. Career Early career Campbell played with Belfast band The Method, who moved to London in 1968 and became Andwella's Dream. He played on only one track, "Felix", on their debut album ''Love and Poetry'', which band leader Dave Lewis called ''"the best drumming on the album"'', before returning home to be with his wife and children. In Belfast he joined Deep Joy, also including bass guitarist Gerry McAvoy, who supported Rory Gallagher's band Taste on tour in 1970. Both Campbell and McAvoy were recruited by Gallagher in 1971 for his new solo project after the break-up of Taste. Campbell was married at this time and living with his family in Streatham, London. Bob Downes
Robert George Downes (born 22 July 1937 in Plymouth) is an English avant-garde jazz flautist and saxophonist. He is known for his work with Mike Westbrook and for leading the Open Music Trio since 1968. Downes is also a composer, arranger, and singer of rock and blues. Career His first album was released by Philips Records in 1969. He was voted best jazz flautist and formed various ensembles. He started his own record label, Openinan. He played with the John Barry 7, pop singer Chris Andrews, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, and the Jimmie Nicol Band. In 1968 he formed the Open Music Trio. The trio has included at bass Paul Bridge, Andrew Cleyndert, Jeff Clyne, Barry Guy, Mark Megiddo, Harry Miller, Glen Moore, Barre Phillips, and Daryl Runswick. Artemios "Demis" Ventouris-Roussos ( ; el, Αρτέμιος "Ντέμης" Βεντούρης-Ρούσσος, ; 15 June 1946 – 25 January 2015) was a Greek singer, songwriter and musician.
