Andrés De Claramonte
Andrés de Claramonte y Corroy (Murcia c. 1580 – September 19, 1626) was a playwright of the Spanish Golden Age. Very few facts are known about his life. As an actor, he worked for the most important companies, such as Baltasar de Pinedo's or Alonso de Olmedo's. As a playwright, he wrote dramas with great epic style, in which he showed his talent for visual and theatrical effects. Major Works Five of Claramonte´s plays, among those that are of undisputed authorship, have attracted most critical attention: ''Deste agua no beberé'', ''El nuevo rey Gallinato'', ''La infelice Dorotea'', ''El secreto en la mujer'', and ''El valiente negro en Flandes''. ''Deste agua no beberé'' is a tense and dramatically striking honor play, featuring King Pedro I who was called both "el cruel" (the cruel one) and "el justiciero" (the just). The Spanish Golden Age ( es, Siglo de Oro, links=no , "Golden Century") is a period of flourishing in arts and literature in Spain, coinciding with the political rise of the Spanish Empire under the Catholic Monarchs of Spain and the Spanish Habsburgs. The greatest patron of Spanish art and culture during this period was King Philip II (1556–1598), whose royal palace, El Escorial, invited the attention of some of Europe's greatest architects and painters such as El Greco, who infused Spanish art with foreign styles and helped create a uniquely Spanish style of painting. Alonso de Olmedo y Ormeño (1626–1682) was a Spanish actor, playwright and writer. He was born in Aragon around 1626. Melveena Christine McKendrick, FBA (born 23 March 1941) is a retired Welsh academic. She was Professor of Spanish Golden Age Literature, Culture and Society at the University of Cambridge from 1999 to 2008, and served as its Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education from January 2004 to October 2008. Gabriel Téllez ( 24 March 1583 20 February 1648), better known as Tirso de Molina, was a Spanish Baroque dramatist, poet and Roman Catholic monk. He is primarily known for writing ''The Trickster of Seville and the Stone Guest'', the play from which the popular character of Don Juan originates.
