André Luy
André Luy (12 January 1927 – 6 April 2005) was a Swiss classical organist. Life Born in Tramelan, Luy attended school in Saint-Imier. After studying at the conservatories of Neuchâtel and Geneva, he was organist at La Chaux-de-Fonds, then at Saint-Imier and Morges. In 1957, he became organist at the Lausanne Cathedral. He was honorary organist of Lausanne Cathedral from 1992 to 2005. Luy has given hundreds of recitals and concerts in Europe as well as in North Africa and Japan. He has made several recordings as a Solo (music), soloist or as a partner of the famous trumpet player Maurice André. Luy also taught at the conservatoire de Lausanne and the Hochschule für Musik Saar on Sarrebruck. He was Doctor ''honoris causa'' of the Université de Lausanne. He had notably collaborated with the choirs of Radio Suisse Romande and Pro Arte as well as with the Ensemble vocal et instrumental de Lausanne. Luy died in Lutry aged 78. Tramelan
Tramelan is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (''Jura Bernois''). History Tramelan is first mentioned in 1179 as ''Trameleins''. The municipality was formerly known by its German name ''Tremlingen'', however, that name is no longer used. During the Middle Ages the collegiate church of Saint-Imier was the major landholder in Tramelan. Politically, the villages were part of the seigniory of Erguel under the Prince-Bishop of Basel. From the 13th century until the mid 15th century there was a local noble family that ruled in Tramelan, probably as a fief under the Prince-Bishop. The village of Tramelan-le-Bas was first mentioned in 1334 while Tramelan-le-Haut appears in documents in 1358. Lutry
Lutry () is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud, located in the Lavaux-Oron, which includes the Lavaux region, a UNESCO World Heritage site. History Lutry is first mentioned in 908 as ''in Lustraco villam''. In 1124 it was mentioned as ''monasterium Sancti Martini cum villa quae dicitur Lustriacus'' and in 1147 it was ''Lustriey''. Prehistory In 1835 and again in 1894, neolithic graves were discovered in Châtelard. The graves contained a total of some thirty stone box graves of the so-called Chamblandes type. They contained three ax blades of worked flint, as well as parts of a shell necklace. In 1895, several graves of the same type were discovered in Montagny. They contained important new items such as antler shafts made for axes, a polished stone ax and stone spindle whorls. Saint-Imier () is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (''Jura Bernois''). The Observatoire Astronomique de Mont-Soleil is located above the village. History Saint-Imier is first mentioned in 884 as ''cella de sancti Himerii''. The municipality was formerly known by its German name ''St. Immer'', however, that name is no longer used. Its name refers to Imerius of Immertal, a 7th-century saint. According to the legend of St. Imerius, he settled in the valley as a hermit in the late 6th or early 7th century on a piece of land that bishop Marius of Lausanne gave him as a present. In 884 a ''cella'' (probably a church, farm and monastery) was mentioned on the site. Archeological excavations around the former Church of St. Martin indicate that a village grew up around the ''cella'' around the same time. The University of Lausanne (UNIL; french: links=no, Université de Lausanne) in Lausanne, Switzerland was founded in 1537 as a school of Protestant theology, before being made a university in 1890. The university is the second oldest in Switzerland, and one of the oldest universities in the world to be in continuous operation.
