André Cavens
André Cavens (1 October 1912 – 9 April 1971), born in Brussels, Uccle, was a Belgian film director, film producer and screenwriter. His career started in 1961 as the director and producer of the drama '' A Train Leaves in Every Hour'' (''Il y a un train toutes les heures''). The film starred Evelyne Axell and was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 12th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1965, he directed the short ''La présence désolée''. Cavens returned to film work in 1968 writing and directing the drama ''Michaella''. The André Cavens Award (french: Prix André-Cavens) is an accolade presented annually by the Belgian Film Critics Association (UCC), an organization of film critics from publications based in Brussels. The André Cavens Award was introduced in 1976 by the organizing committee to honor cinematic achievement in Belgium. The name of the award comes from film director André Cavens. Evelyne Axell (16 August 1935 – 10 September 1972) was a Belgian Pop painter. She is best known for her psychedelic, erotic paintings of female nudes and self-portraits on plexiglas that blend the hedonistic and Pop impulses of the 1960s. Elements of the 1960s—the Vietnam War, the Black Panthers movement, and the sexual liberation of women affected her work. Early years Born on 16 August 1935 in Namur, Belgium, Evelyne Axell (née Devaux) was born into a traditional, middle-class Catholic family. Her father, André Devaux, was a well known craftman in silverware and jewelry in the region and her mother, Mariette Godu, came from a very modest family.
