Andrew Jackson Young Jr. (born March 12, 1932) is an American politician, diplomat, and activist. Beginning his career as a pastor, Young was an early leader in the civil rights movement, serving as executive director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and a close confidant to Martin Luther King Jr. Young later became active in politics, serving as a U.S. Congressman from Georgia, United States Ambassador to the United Nations in the Carter Administration, and 55th Mayor of Atlanta. Since leaving office, Young has founded or served in many organizations working on issues of public policy and political lobbying. Andrew Young (British Politician)
Andrew Young, JP (1858–17 February 1943) was a British teacher and magistrate who served as MP for Glasgow Partick from 1923 to 1924. Biography Prior to entering politics, Young worked as a shoemaker, map-mounter, joiner, and a compositor before becoming a teacher. In December 1881, he took up a teaching position at Edinburgh's North Canongate School, situated in the Canongate slum district. From 1895, Young served as the school's headmaster, a position he held for 27 years till the year 1922. In 1944, following his death, he left £100 in a charitable trust which is annually distributed to schools. Young was considered active in the Edinburgh Labour movement, and stood as a Socialist MP for the Glasgow Partick constituency in the 1923 general election. Andrew Robert Young (born April 18, 1961) is an American diplomat who has served as United States Ambassador to Burkina Faso from 2016 to 2020. He attended University of California Berkeley and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He was confirmed as ambassador on September 28, 2016, and succeeded Tulinabo S. Mushingi. Andrew "Andy" Young (born 12 February 1992) is a Scottish cross-country skier. He competed for Great Britain in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, finishing in 74th place in the 15km freestyle. In 2008, he became the youngest skier to compete in a World Cup event. At the 2010 Games, Young finished 14th in the team sprint event and 60th in the individual sprint event. For the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009, he finished 14th in the 4 × 10 km relay and 98th in the individual sprint event. Young also competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics, where he finished 37th in the 15km classical competition. Young took his first top 10 finish in the Cross-Country Skiing World Cup in December 2015, when he finished in ninth place at a freestyle sprint competition in Davos, Switzerland. Andrew Jacob Young (born May 10, 1994) is an American professional baseball infielder who is a free agent. He made his MLB debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2020. Amateur career Young attended West Fargo High School in West Fargo, North Dakota. As a senior in 2012, he was named the North Dakota Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year after he batted .389 with six home runs and 38 RBIs alongside pitching to a 5-0 record with a 1.47 ERA. Undrafted out of high school in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, he enrolled at the University of Jamestown to play college baseball. Andrew Young FRSE (1807–1889) was a Scottish schoolmaster and poet, known as the author of the hymn "There Is a Happy Land". Life The second son of David Young, a teacher in Edinburgh, he was born in Edinburgh on 23 April 1807. He studied the arts and theology at the University of Edinburgh, where he won John Wilson's prize for the best poem on the "Scottish Highlands". In 1828 Young was appointed by the town council of Edinburgh headmaster of Niddrie Street school, where he taught for 12 years, starting with 90 pupils and leaving with 600. In 1840 he became head English master of Madras College, St Andrews, from which he retired in 1853 moving back to Edinburgh, where he was until his death. Andrew Douglas Young (1881 – 22 June 1950), commonly referred to as A. D. Young, was an accountant and stockbroker in South Australia. History Young was born at Eaglehawk, Bendigo, in 1881. He left for Adelaide to take up a position of manager for Walkley & Davies, and in 1913 entered business as a stockbroker on his own account. He was elected a member of the Adelaide Stock Exchange in 1909 and to the committee in 1922. He was elected chairman of the Adelaide Stock Exchange in 1932 and held the post until 1948, when he retired. Life Andrew Young was born to the stationmaster of Elgin in Scotland in 1885. Andrew William Young is a British cognitive neuropsychologist whose primary research has been on face perception. Career Young obtained a BSc (Psychology) from Bedford College, London in 1971 followed by a PhD from the University of Warwick in 1974.
