Andrew Ross (rugby Union, Born 1879)
Pte. Andrew Ross (15 May 1879 – 6 April 1916) was a Scottish rugby union player from Edinburgh. He worked in the Merchant Navy as a marine engineer. He played for Royal High School FP and was capped several times for between 1905 and 1909. In 1910, Ross moved to Vancouver and enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force after the First World War broke out, and was sent to Belgium with the 29th Canadians (Tobin's Tigers). Wounded during the Actions of St Eloi Craters, Ross risked his life to aid other wounded men under heavy fire when he was hit by a shell and killed.Bath, p109 He is buried in Ridge Wood Military Cemetery, Belgium. Andy Ross (1940-2006) was an international speedway rider from Scotland. Speedway career Ross was a finalist at the Individual Ice Speedway World Championship in the 1969 Individual Ice Speedway World Championship and the 1970 Individual Ice Speedway World Championship. He rode in the British League of British Speedway from 19697 to 1971 and was the first captain of the Peterbrough Panthers. He died in a shooting accident in Scotland on 3 September 2006. Andrew Ross (Australian Politician)
Andrew Hendry Ross (1 August 1829 – 29 January 1910) was a Scottish-born Australian politician. He was born in Muirkirk in Ayrshire to farmer David Ross and Mary Kerr. He attended local parish schools before studying medicine at the University of Glasgow. He was an assistant medical officer in London and then an assistant sanitary inspector. In 1857 he arrived in New South Wales as the medical officer on an immigrant ship, and established himself as a local doctor at Molong. During this time he was also District Registrar for births, deaths and marriages, coroner, and public vaccinator. He was an alderman from 1881 to 1882, and mayor in 1882. On 7 November 1881 he married Frances Ann Genn, with whom he had two children. Ross was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1880 as the member for Molong.
