Andrew Garry
Andrew Garry (born 30 September 1966) is a former Scottish rugby union player. He played for the amateur Glasgow District side and after professionalism played for Glasgow Rugby, now named the Glasgow Warriors. He played at Fly-half but also played at Centre and Full Back. He is currently a Physical Education teacher at Dunfermline High School, having worked there since 1993 following a one year post as a PE teacher at George Watson’s College, Edinburgh. His school Kirkintilloch High School at the time did not play rugby so Garry instead played for Lenzie RFC. His form got him selected for the SRU's President's XV; a side made up of State school pupils. In 1985 he was playing for Glasgow Academicals at Centre. and by 1987 he was playing Full Back and Centre for the club. In 1988 Garry played for the Scotland Under 18 side. Lenzie RFC
Lenzie RFC is a rugby union side based in Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. The club was founded in 1898. They play their home games at Viewfield. History The opening match of Lenzie RFC was reputed to be against the crew of HMS Benbow in 1898. The club won the SRU's Scotland's team of the month competition in March 2019. The club is connected with George Watson's College as a club for former pupils, and changed its policy in the 1980s to be a fully open club, welcoming players of all abilities regardless of whether they attended the school or not. Scottish Inter-District Championship
The Scottish Inter-District Championship is a rugby union competition between regional sides in Scotland. Established in 1953, the tournament went through several formats. The Scottish Rugby Union confirmed in January 2023 that the Scottish Inter-District Championship would return for the 2022-23 season, starting in May 2023. The Inter-District Championship will be an amateur championship with players selected outwith the professional United Rugby Championship and Super 6 leagues. Instead the players will be selected from the amateur leagues of Scotland; the Scottish Premiership and the national leagues below. Full-back (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Props push in the scrums, while the hooker tries to secure the ball for their team by "hooking" it back with their heel. Glasgow Academicals RFC
The Glasgow Academical Football Club is the third oldest rugby football club in Scotland. The club was also a founder member of the Scottish Football Union (the future SRU) in 1873. History Glasgow Hawks In 1997 the decision was made to combine the first XV's of Glasgow Academicals and close rivals Glasgow High Kelvinside (themselves a fairly new club having been formed when the struggling Glasgow High FP and Kelvinside Academicals clubs combined in 1982), something that was predicted would happen only after "hell freezes over".
