Andrew Doyle (artist)
Andrew Doyle (c 1774–1841) was an Irish painter, engraver, and farmer. He was exiled for life to Australia in 1802 after being found in possession of a watermark of the Bank of Ireland, used to forge banknotes. Early life and exile Andrew Doyle was born around November 1774 in Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of Bartholomew Doyle and Bridget (née) Nugent. Doyle was baptised in St Catherine's Church, Meath Street on 29 November 1774. He studied drawing under William Waldron, the Master of the Royal Dublin Society's School of Ornamental Drawing. He married Sophia Isabella Norris around 1792. Sophia was a Protestant, which led to Doyle converting upon their marriage. Sophia's mother's maiden name is believed to be Jouanier, and that she was of French Huguenot descent. Andrew Doyle is a playwright, journalist, and political satirist from Northern Ireland, who has written for the fictional character Jonathan Pie and created the character Titania McGrath. In 2021, Doyle joined GB News to host a weekly show titled ''Free Speech Nation''. Early life and education Doyle is from an Irish Catholic background, and was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. He completed his undergraduate studies at Aberystwyth before obtaining a Masters degree at the University of York. He holds a doctorate in early Renaissance poetry from the University of Oxford, having studied at Wadham College, Oxford. Career Doyle regularly writes for ''Spiked'', and runs a comedy night in London called Comedy Unleashed. He has performed his stand-up shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, four of which have also been performed at the Soho Theatre, London. Andrew Doyle (born 2 July 1960) is an Irish former Fine Gael politician who was a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wicklow constituency from 2007 to 2020. He served as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine from 2016 to 2020. Early life and education Doyle graduated from Rockwell Agricultural College, in County Tipperary, in 1978, and as a young farmer in 1981, he won the Stephen Cullinane Scholarship to New Zealand, where he played rugby in Canterbury. Personal life Doyle runs the family farm in County Wicklow, which has been in his family for six generations. He is married to Ann Smith and they have three sons and one daughter. Politics He has been a member of Fine Gael since 1983, and first sought election to Wicklow County Council in the East Wicklow local electoral area, where he served from 1999 to 2007, and was chairman of the council from 2005 to 2006.
