Andrew Campbell (yachtsman)
Andrew W. Campbell (born 3 February 1984 in Toms River, New Jersey) is an American yachtsman. Raised in Toms River, New Jersey, Campbell first learned to sail as a child in Toms River with the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association and moved to San Diego, California at the age of eight. Campbell is the latest in a long lineage of sailing greats from the San Diego Yacht Club, in the unusual design of the Naples Sabot, commonly used for junior programs on the West Coast. He attended The Bishop's School in San Diego, CA suburb La Jolla. In the Snipe class, he was the 2001 District 6 Junior Champion. In the Star class he won the silver medal in the 2013 World Championship and the 2010 European Championship. College Campbell is the former Commodore of the Georgetown University Hoyas Sailing Team. Sailing (sport)
The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Additionally, there are specialized competitions that include setting speed records. Racing formats include both closed courses and point-to-point contests; they may be in sheltered waters, coast-wise or on the open ocean. Most competitions are held within defined classes or ratings that either entail one type of sailing craft to ensure a contest primarily of skill or rating the sailing craft to create classifications or handicaps. Laser (sailboat)
The Laser is a class of single-handed, one-design sailing dinghies using a common hull design with three interchangeable rigs of different sail areas, appropriate to a given combination of wind strength and crew weight. Bruce Kirby designed the Laser in 1970 with an emphasis on simplicity and performance. The Laser is a widely produced class of dinghies. As of 2018, there were more than 215,000 boats worldwide. ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship is the oldest and most prestigious of the American Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Championships. Winners are awarded the Henry A. ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship is one of the seven Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Championships. Since 1963, the winner is awarded the ''Glen S. Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Championships
The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) holds National Championships in seven different categories: * Coed Dinghy * Women’s Dinghy *Team Racing * Women's Team Racing * Men’s Singlehanded * Women’s Singlehanded *Match Racing (previously Sloop) The college team that compiles the best overall record in the six categories is awarded the Leonard M. Fowle Trophy. Teams must qualify for the National Championships through conference championships. All regattas are scored low-point with no throw-out races. Racing is done on short courses. Boats are usually rotated each race so that each team sails each boat in the fleet once. The ICSA National Championships rotate amongst ICSA's seven different conferences each year.
