Andrei Pippidi
Andrei-Nicolae Pippidi (born 12 March 1948, in Bucharest) is a Romanian historian and Professor Emeritus at the University of Bucharest, specialised in South-Eastern European history of the 15th–19th century, in Romanian history of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period, and in the relationship between South-Eastern Europe and the Occident. After graduating from the Faculty of History at the University of Bucharest, Pippidi was employed at the Institute of South Eastern European Studies in Bucharest from 1970. Additionally, he conducted research abroad, hosted by the Centre national de la recherche scientifique, Paris (1974 and 1978, with Pierre Chaunu and Jacques Le Goff), and Wolfson College, Oxford (1981–82). Vladimir Tismăneanu
Vladimir Tismăneanu (; born July 4, 1951) is a Romanian American political scientist, political analyst, sociologist, and professor at the University of Maryland, College Park. A specialist in political systems and comparative politics, he is director of the University of Maryland's Center for the Study of Post-Communist Societies, having served as chairman of the editorial committee (2004–2008) and editor (1998–2004) of the ''East European Politics and Societies'' academic review. Alina Mungiu-Pippidi
Alina Mungiu-Pippidi (; born March 12, 1964) is a Romanian political scientist, academic, journalist and writer. A commentator on national politics, she is one of the civil society activists in post-1989 Romania, and, since 1990, an active contributor to ''Revista 22'' weekly. Mungiu-Pippidi was a professor at the National School of Administration and Political Science in Bucharest, where she held courses on nationalism and electoral behavior. She has also lectured on post-Cold War transition to a market economy at several universities and business schools, including Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Oxford, and the Stockholm School of Economics. Iron Guard
The Iron Guard ( ro, Garda de Fier) was a Romanian militant revolutionary fascist movement and political party founded in 1927 by Corneliu Zelea Codreanu as the Legion of the Archangel Michael () or the Legionnaire Movement (). It was strongly anti-democratic, anti-capitalist, anti-communist, and anti-Semitic. It differed from other European right-wing movements of the period due to its spiritual basis, as the Iron Guard was deeply imbued with Romanian Orthodox Christian mysticism. In March 1930, Codreanu formed the Iron Guard as a paramilitary branch of the Legion, which in 1935 changed its official name to the "Totul pentru Țară" party—literally, "Everything for the Country".
