Andreas Lous
Andreas Lous (1728 - 1797) was a Danish naval officer responsible for early navigational charts of Danish Waters and the dredging of harbours, in addition to sea-time on various Danish warships. He was captain of the ship-of-the-line HDMS Printz Friderich when she ran aground in 1780 near Læsø and was a total loss. Personal Details Born 3 October 1728 in Copenhagen, his father Lorentz Lous was director of navigation there. Andreas married twice. His first wife was Christine Weggersløff, the daughter of a senior clergyman. He married her in 1763 and she died in 1777. His second wife was Dorothea Jensenius, the daughter of a state counsellor. Andreas died 17 July 1797. Career Andreas Lous joined the Danish-Norwegian Navy as a cadet in 1740. He was commissioned as a junior lieutenant in 1749 and rose steadily through the ranks until he became a rear admiral in 1790. He retired in poor health in 1796 with the rank of vice admiral. HDMS Printz Friderich (1764)
HDMS ''Printz Friderich'' was a ship-of-the-line launched in 1764, to a design by Frederik Michael Krabbe, a naval officer and leading ship designer of that period.The spelling of the ship's name in records has varied slightly over the years eg Printz, Prinds, Prinz and several variations of Friderich, Frederich. The title used for this article is the name as on the design plans. Two other ships — ''Norske Løve'' and ''Øresund'' — were constructed to the same design. Little is known of her service history beyond that she received a new keel in 1775. She was lost in 1780. Henrik Fisker (admiral)
Henrik Lorentz Fisker (4 January 1720 20 June 1797) was a successful naval officer in the service of Denmark. He was the son of an attorney at the supreme court, and deputy mayor of Copenhagen. From the age of thirteen as a cadet in the Danish-Norwegian navy, he rose through the ranks to vice admiral in 1775 and full admiral in 1790. He died 20 June 1797 and was buried in the Holmens Kirkegård, the Danish naval cemetery, in Copenhagen. Early career As a junior lieutenant, Fisker saw service in the British navy from 1739 to 1742, and again as a senior lieutenant from 1744 to 1746. In 1753, as captain of the armed merchant ship ''Friderich og Lovise'', he was sent to reinforce the Danish squadron off Morocco and at the same time carry the diplomat Andreas Æreboe to the area. Nakkehoved Lighthouse
Nakkehoved Lighthouse (Danish: ''Nakkehoved Fyr)'' was originally the name for two individual lighthouses above the ''Nakkehoved'' cliffs''.'' Since the eastern lighthouse was decommissioned in 1898, the name ''Nakkehoved lighthouse'' has come to refer to only the western tower, which is still operational. The lighthouse marks the entrance to the Kattegat sea, and parallels the Kullen Lighthouse in Sweden on the other side of the Øresund strait. The tower is 21 meters tall and emits 3 blinks of 0.3-second duration every 20 seconds. The light has a brightness of 229,358 cd, and can be seen from 25 nautical miles (ca. 46 km) away in clear weather. Poul de Løvenørn (1751–1826) was a Danish naval officer and cartographer, scientist, administrator and diplomat. Kattegat
The Kattegat (; sv, Kattegatt ) is a sea area bounded by the Jutlandic peninsula in the west, the Danish Straits islands of Denmark and the Baltic Sea to the south and the provinces of Bohuslän, Västergötland, Halland and Skåne in Sweden in the east. The Baltic Sea drains into the Kattegat through the Danish Straits. The sea area is a continuation of the Skagerrak and may be seen as a bay of the North Sea, but in traditional Scandinavian usage, this is not the case. The Kattegat is a rather shallow sea and can be very difficult and dangerous to navigate because of the many sandy and stony reefs and tricky currents, which often shift.
