Andrea Nugent
Andrea Nugent (born November 1, 1968) is an RMT and Canadian former competition swimmer who specialized in butterfly and freestyle events. Nugent won the bronze medal with the women's 4x100-metre medley relay team at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, together with Canadian teammates Allison Higson, Jane Kerr and Lori Melien. Butterfly Stroke
The butterfly (colloquially shortened to fly) is a List of swimming styles, swimming stroke swum on the chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick (also known as the "dolphin kick"). While other styles like the breaststroke, front crawl, or backstroke can be swum adequately by beginners, the butterfly is a more difficult stroke that requires good technique as well as strong muscles. It is the newest swimming (sport), swimming style swum in competition, first swum in 1933 and originating out of the breaststroke. Speed and ergonomics The peak speed of the butterfly is faster than that of the front crawl due to the synchronous pull/push with both arms and legs, which is done quickly. Yet since speed drops significantly during the recovery phase, it is overall slightly slower than front crawl, especially over longer distances. Lori Anne Melien (born May 11, 1972) is a former competition swimmer from Canada. Melien won a bronze medal in the women's 4x100-metre medley relay at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, together with Andrea Nugent Andrea Nugent (born November 1, 1968) is an RMT and Canadian former competition swimmer who specialized in butterfly and freestyle events. Nugent won the bronze medal with the women's 4x100-metre medley relay team at the 1988 Summer Olympics ..., Allison Higson and Jane Kerr. In individual events, she finished 12th and 19th in the 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke. Melien swam much of her amateur career for the Ajax Aquatic Club in Ajax, Ontario where she still holds a number of club records.
