Andrea Fendt
Andrea Fendt (born 31 January 1960, in Bischofswiesen) is a West German luger who competed during the 1970s. She won the silver medal in the women's singles event at the 1978 FIL World Luge Championships in Imst, Austria. Fendt's brother, Josef, has been president of the International Luge Federation since 1994. Fendt finished second overall in the women's singles Luge World Cup in 1977–8. A luge is a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds supine (face up) and feet-first. A luger steers by using the calf muscles to flex the sled's runners or by exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the seat. Racing sleds weigh for singles and for doubles. Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,303. The village of Lake Placid is near the center of the town of North Elba, southwest of Plattsburgh. Lake Placid was elected as the host city for the 1980 Winter Games at the 75th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Vienna, Austria in 1974. This marked the second time the Upstate New York village hosted the Winter Games, after 1932. Josef Fendt
Josef Fendt (born 6 October 1947 in Berchtesgaden) is the immediate past president of the Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course (FIL), having served from 1994 to 2020. He was a West German-German luger who competed from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he won the silver medal in the men's singles event at Innsbruck in 1976. Fendt also won two gold medals in the men's singles event at the FIL World Luge Championships, earning them in 1970 and 1974. Additionally, he won a silver medal in the men's singles event at the 1973 FIL European Luge Championships in Königssee, West Germany. After his retirement from competitive luge, Fendt got active in the International Luge Federation (FIL), being named Vice-President Sport for Artificial Track in 1985, a position he stayed at until the death of FIL's first president Bert Isatitsch in February 1994.
