Andrea Bresciani
Andrea Bresciani (29 January 1923 – 7 February 2006) was an Italian-born comics artist, illustrator, and animator. Of Slovenian origin, he was born Dušan Brešan in Tolmino (at the time part of Italy) and emigrated to Australia in 1950. Amongst his works were the Italian comic book series ''Geky Dor'' and ''Tony Falco'' and the widely syndicated Australian series ''Frontiers of Science''. In the latter part of his career he worked as a film and television animator for Hanna-Barbera and Marvel Productions. Bresciani died in Malvern, Australia at the age of 83. Life and career Bresciani was born Dušan Brešan to a Slovene family in Tolmino (at the time part of the Province of Gorizia in Italy but now a city in Slovenia). At the outbreak of World War II, his mother took Dušan and his two sisters to live near Milan. The family subsequently took the Italian surname "Bresciani", and he changed his first name to "Andrea". AustLit: The Australian Literature Resource (also known as AustLit: Australian Literature Gateway; and AustLit: The Resource for Australian Literature), usually referred to simply as AustLit, is an internet-based, non-profit collaboration between researchers and librarians from Australian universities, led by the University of Queensland (UQ), designed to comprehensively record the history of Australian literary and story-making cultures. ''Defenders of the Earth'' is an American animated television series produced in 1986, featuring characters from three comic strips distributed by King Features Syndicate—Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, and Mandrake's assistant Lothar—opposing Ming the Merciless in the year 2015. Supporting characters include their children Rick Gordon (son of Flash), L.J. (son of Lothar), Kshin (adopted son of Mandrake), and Jedda Walker (daughter of the Phantom). The show lasted for 65 episodes; there was also a short-lived comic book series published by Star Comics (an imprint of Marvel Comics). The closing credits credit Rob Walsh and Tony Pastor for the main title music, and Stan Lee for the lyrics. It is the second animated television series in the studio's ''Scooby-Doo'' franchise, and follows the first incarnation, ''Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!'' It premiered on September 9, 1972, and ended on October 27, 1973, running for two seasons on CBS as the only hour-long ''Scooby-Doo'' series. Smoky Dawson
Smoky Dawson AM, MBE (19 March 191313 February 2008), born as Herbert Henry Brown, was an Australian Country, Western and folk performer, radio star, entertainer, and icon. He was widely touted as Australia's first singing cowboy complete with acoustic steel string guitar and yodel, in the style of American's Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. Dawson had an extraordinarily long and prolific career, releasing his first single in 1941 and his last album in 2005, aged 92. Through his high-rating syndicated radio serials (at their height broadcast on 100 stations), "The Adventures of Smoky Dawson", as well as television appearances, comic books and songs he created the persona of a happy-go-lucky singing cowboy. Dawson did his own version of Wild Colonial Boy, rewriting the words and music with American country singer Glen Campbell. Radio Patrol
''Radio Patrol'' is a police comic strip carried in newspapers from August 7, 1933 to December 16, 1950 in the dailies, with a Sunday strip that ran from November 25, 1934 to October 20, 1946. It was created by artist Charles Schmidt and writer Eddie Sullivan, who both worked for the ''Boston American''. Sullivan was a newspaper reporter who specialized in crime reporting. Because of the popularity of ''Dick Tracy'', William Randolph Hearst wanted a strip in his King Features Syndicate to compete. The strip, which started in 1933 in the ''Boston Record'', was originally called ''Pinkerton, Jr.'', since the main character was a boy named Pinky. (Dick Tracy also had a boy as a key character at the time.) The new strip was popular with Boston readers and the main character shortly became Sergeant Pat, while Pinky grew older quite rapidly.
