Anderson Rebels
The Anderson Rebels were a minor league baseball club that existed between 1946 and 1954. The team, based in Anderson, South Carolina, was a member of the class-B Tri-State League. In 1946, the team was initially established as the Anderson A's and were affiliated with the New York Giants (NL), New York Giants. The next season the club became an independent and was renamed the Anderson Rebels. The team later became affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Browns and Baltimore Orioles before disbanding in 1954. The Anderson Rebels and Anderson A's were preceded in Anderson by the Anderson Electricians who played as members of the South Carolina League (1907), Carolina Association (1908–1912) and Palmetto League (1931). Tri-State League
The Tri-State League was the name of six different circuits in American minor league baseball. History The first league of that name played for four years (1887–1890) and consisted of teams in Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia. The second league, played from 1904–1914, and had member clubs in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The League contested its 1904 championship game in Philadelphia between York and Williamsport and attracted 3,500 fans to the Phillies' ball park Charles F. Carpenter was president from 1906 to 1913. During the 1920s, two versions of the Tri-State League briefly existed: a 1924 loop with clubs in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, and a 1925–1926 association located in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. Virgil Stallcup
Thomas Virgil Stallcup (January 3, 1922 – May 2, 1989) was an American professional baseball shortstop who played in seven Major League seasons from 1947 through 1953. Nicknamed "Red", the native of Honea Path, South Carolina, threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Stallcup attended Clemson University. He was originally signed by the Boston Red Sox before World War II, and was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the Rule 5 draft after the season, when Stallcup batted .304 in the Class B Piedmont League. After his debut with the Reds on April 18, 1947, he was sent to the Jersey City Giants for seasoning, and he responded by hitting .338 with 15 home runs in 76 games. From 1948 to 1951, Stallcup was Cincinnati's starting shortstop, but he never batted higher than .254; he twice hit eight home runs in a season. Asheville Tourists
The Asheville Tourists are a Minor League Baseball team of the South Atlantic League and the High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They are located in Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville teams have played under the Tourists moniker in different leagues and classifications for over a century, with the earliest dating to 1897. The current team has played continuously in what is now known as the South Atlantic League since 1976, though it was briefly known as the High-A East in 2021. Asheville has won three South Atlantic league championships, first in 1984 and most recently in 2014. Previous Tourists teams won a total of four additional championships. The Tourists play home games at McCormick Field. The park opened in 1924, renovated in 1959, and renovated again for the 1992 season.
