Ananta Charan Sai Babu
Sai, Ananta Charan (full name ''Ananta Charan Sai Babu'') (1915–1989) Mayurbhanj Chhau dance ( UNESCO heritage) practitioner. Born in a family of Chhau performers in Mayurbhanj, he studied under his father Radhamohan Sai and others gurus of chhau dance such as Dibakar Bhanj Deo and Mohammad Rejak Khan. Ananta Charan Sai died in 1989. Career He promoted Chhau dance by teaching many disciples as Head Ustad (maestro) in Baripada in the premier institute of training chhau dance called Nritya Pratisthan. It is found in three styles named after the location where they are performed, i.e. the ''Purulia Chhau'' of West Bengal, the ''Seraikella Chhau'' of Jharkhand and the ''Mayurbhanj Chhau'' of Odisha. The dance ranges from celebrating martial arts, acrobatics and athletics performed in festive themes of a folk dance, to a structured dance with religious themes found in Shaivism, Shaktism and Vaishnavism. Mayurbhanj district is one of the 30 districts in Odisha state in eastern India. It is the largest district of Odisha by area. Its headquarters are at Baripada. Other major towns are Rairangpur, Karanjia and Udala. , it is the third-most-populous district of Odisha (out of 30), after Ganjam and Cuttack. Baripada () is a city and a municipality in Mayurbhanj district in the state of Odisha, India. Located along the east bank of the Budhabalanga river, Baripada is the cultural centre of north Odisha.
