Anam Cara Writer's And Artist's Retreat
Anam Cara Writer's and Artist's Retreat is a project in the village of Eyeries, County Cork, Ireland, which provides accommodation and a supportive environment for writers and other creative workers to develop their ideas. It was founded in 1998, and has hosted more than a thousand writers, artists, composers and choreographers since then. History The retreat centre is owned and directed by Sue Booth-Forbes, a teacher, writer, editor and coach, who describes her work with writers, for example, as that of a "literary midwife." Eyeries
Eyeries (historically spelt as it is pronounced, ''Irees'' or ''Iries''; ) is a village and its hinterland, on the Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland, near the border with County Kerry. It lies at the foot of a hilly area, with a beach nearby, and is home to several retail and tourist businesses. Geography One of the most south-westerly villages in Ireland, Eyeries sits on a bluff overlooking Coulagh Bay and the mouth of the Kenmare River (actually a bay), looking towards the Atlantic Ocean, halfway along the north coast of the Beara Peninsula. Billy Collins
William James Collins (born March 22, 1941) is an American poet, appointed as Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001 to 2003. He is a Distinguished Professor at Lehman College of the City University of New York (retired, 2016). Collins was recognized as a Literary Lion of the New York Public Library (1992) and selected as the New York State Poet for 2004 through 2006. The Tyrone Guthrie Centre, often known as ''Annaghmakerrig'', is a residential facility for creative artists. Located at Annaghmakerrig, Newbliss, County Monaghan, Ireland, it was founded in 1981. The house was the family home of theatrical director Sir Tyrone Guthrie, and he bequeathed it to the Irish nation in 1971, to be used as an artistic retreat. The centre is a residential workplace open to professional practitioners in all art forms. Cill Rialaig is a contemporary arts project, comprising the ''Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat'' and the ''Cill Rialaig Arts Centre'' with exhibition and retail facilities, founded by Noelle Campbell-Sharp in 1991 and managed by a registered charity. Ulf Lindström (born 12 November 1947) is a Swedish theoretical physicist working in the fields of string theory, supersymmetry, and general relativity. He earned his fil. kand. university degree at Stockholm University in 1972 and continued under the supervision of Bertel Laurent with doctoral studies. The title of his PhD thesis was "Extensions of general relativity: scalar tensor theory, topology of space-time and supergravity." Leanne O'Sullivan is a poet from the Beara Peninsula in Cork, Ireland. She is the author of three collections of poetry. Writing career O'Sullivan's first collection of poetry, ''Waiting for my Clothes'' (2004), was published by Bloodaxe Books when she was 21-years-old. She later published ''Cailleach: The Hag of Beara'' (2009) and ''The Mining Road'' (2013). Bernard O'Donoghue FRSL (born 1945) is a contemporary Irish poet and academic. Early life and education Bernard O'Donoghue was born on 14 December 1945 in Cullen, County Cork, Ireland, where he lived on a farm. “My father was a terrible and reluctant farmer, though my mother was very good, she got stuck into it.” he recalled in an interview with Shevaun Wilder.
