Anahit Avanesian
Anahit Avanesian (born 21 March 1981) is an Armenian jurist and the current Armenian Minister of Health. Before, she has been a jurist in the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the pharmaceutical industry. Education She enrolled in the Faculty of Law of the Yerevan State University in 1997 from where she earned a M.Sc. in Civil Law in 2003. She followed up on her studies at the American University of Armenia, graduating from the Master Programme in Law. Between 2002 and 2004, she took part in Leadership Programs of the Leadership Development Center and the South Caucasus Young Women Leadership program. Professional career Her professional career began in 2000 as a jurist for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Reserve Agency in the Ministry of Emergency situations. From 2005 until 2015 she was a jurist for the NGO Democracy Today. Civil Contract (Armenia)
Civil Contract ( hy, Քաղաքացիական պայմանագիր, , ՔՊ, KP, often shortened to Քաղպայմանագիր, ''K'aghpaymanagir'') is a centrist political party in Armenia. It was established on 24 July 2013 as a non-governmental organization. Its governing board was formed on 9 December 2013. On 30 May 2015, it was registered as a political party. Civil Contract participated in the 2017 Armenian parliamentary election and the 2017 Yerevan City Council election as part of the Way Out Alliance (''Yelk''). COVID-19 Pandemic In Armenia
The COVID-19 pandemic in Armenia is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 () caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (). The virus was confirmed to have reached Armenia on 1 March 2020 when its first case was reported. It has spread to all of the regions ( marz) of Armenia and has caused 4,400 deaths (not including 1,077 more deaths as a result of "other reasons"). Armenia has suspended visa-free travel for Chinese citizens since 1 February, shortly after it implemented a 90-day visa-free regime on 19 January. Citizens of Iran can no longer receive a visa on arrival either. Additionally, passengers who have been to most of Europe, as well as South Korea and Japan, within the past 14 days, are no longer allowed to enter Armenia. ''Armenian Weekly'' (originally ''Hairenik Weekly'') is an English Armenian publication published by Hairenik Association, Inc. in Watertown, Massachusetts in the United States. It is the sister publication to the Armenian language weekly ''Hairenik''. It was started as ''Hairenik Weekly'' in 1934 and its name was changed to ''Armenian Weekly'', the name under which it is still published, in 1969. ''Armenian Weekly'' also runs an online publication. ''Hairenik Weekly'' (19341969) In June 1932, the Armenian-language ''Hairenik'' had started a column in English to address the needs of English-speaking Armenians. Nikol Pashinyan
Nikol Vovayi Pashinyan ( hy, Նիկոլ Վովայի Փաշինյան, ; born 1 June 1975) is an Armenian politician serving as the prime minister of Armenia since 8 May 2018. A journalist by profession, Pashinyan founded his own newspaper in 1998, which was shut down a year later for libel. He was sentenced for one year for defamation against then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. He edited the newspaper ''Haykakan Zhamanak'' ("Armenian Times") from 1999 to 2012. A supporter of Armenia's first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, he was highly critical of second president Robert Kocharyan, Defense Minister Serzh Sargsyan, and their allies, frequently referring to them as the "Karabakh Clan". Pashinyan was also critical of Armenia's close relations with Russia, and promoted establishing closer relations with Turkey instead. Yerevan State University
Yerevan State University (YSU; hy, Երևանի Պետական Համալսարան, ԵՊՀ, ''Yerevani Petakan Hamalsaran''), also simply University of Yerevan, is the oldest continuously operating public university in Armenia. Founded in 1919, it is the largest university in the country. It is thus informally known as Armenia's "mother university" (Մայր ԲՈւՀ, ''Mayr Buh'').
