Anaerobic Digestion And Biogas Association
The Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association (ADBA), formerly the Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association, is a United Kingdom-based trade association for the anaerobic digestion and associated industries. ADBA was founded in September 2009 by its then chairman Lord Redesdale and 10 founder member companies to represent businesses involved in the anaerobic digestion and biogas industries. Its objective is to help remove the barriers to anaerobic digestion that are faced and to support its members to grow their businesses. Its principal aim is to enable and facilitate the development of a mature anaerobic digestion industry in the UK within 10 years. Anaerobic digestion is a sequence of processes by which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. The process is used for industrial or domestic purposes to manage waste or to produce fuels. Much of the fermentation used industrially to produce food and drink products, as well as home fermentation, uses anaerobic digestion. Rupert Bertram Mitford, 6th Baron Redesdale, Baron Mitford (born 18 July 1967), is a British hereditary peer, Liberal Democrat politician and member of the prominent Mitford family. The Organics Recycling Group (ORG), formerly the Association for Organics Recycling (AfOR) and before that the Composting Association, is the leading trade organisation for the biodegradable waste management industry in the UK. It helped to develop the BSI PAS 100 industry standard for composts. ORG was formed by the merger of AfOR and the Renewable Energy Association (REA) on 1 January 2013 which created a membership of around 1,100 companies, organisations and individuals.
