Ana Torrent Bertrán de Lis (born 12 July 1966) is a Spanish film actress. Early life and career Her debut came in 1973 with the starring role as "Ana" in the film ''El espíritu de la colmena'' (''The Spirit of the Beehive''), directed by Víctor Erice, when she was seven years old. This was followed by another memorable role in which she played another character with the same name in ''Cría Cuervos'' (''Raise Ravens'') (1976) by director Carlos Saura. In 1989, Torrent performed with Sharon Stone in the film '' Blood and Sand'' directed by Javier Elorrieta. In 1996, Torrent received numerous awards and nominations, including a Goya Award nomination for her lead actress role in Alejandro Amenábar's film ''Tesis'' (''Thesis''). By the end of the 1990s, she received critical acclaim when she played a Basque nationalist murdered for quitting ETA, in the film '' Yoyes'' (1999) directed by Helena Taberna. ''The Spirit of the Beehive'' (Spanish: ''El espíritu de la colmena'') is a 1973 Spanish drama film directed by Víctor Erice. The film was Erice's debut and is considered a masterpiece of Spanish cinema. The film focuses on a young girl named Ana and her fascination with the 1931 American horror film ''Frankenstein'' and also explores her family life and schooling. Many have noted the symbolism present throughout the film, as an artistic choice, and a way Erice avoided the censors. Despite censors in Spain, which was under the Franco regime at the time of its making and release, the film still manages to symbolically portray Spanish life under Franco's rule. ''Cría Cuervos'' (''Raise ravens'') is a 1976 Spanish drama film directed by Carlos Saura. The film is an allegorical drama about an eight-year-old girl dealing with loss. Highly acclaimed, it received the Special Jury Prize Award at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The events of the film are set mainly in 1975, but interweave the past, present and future. Eight-year-old Ana overhears her father, Anselmo, in bed with a woman, followed by choking sounds. The woman rushes out alone and leaves.
